Exclamation SF Bay Area Wrenchfest -OR- BBQ & BS..

Well, ive got the new to me 88 S4 now, pickin it up mon/tue evening, work is just solid early this week.

Im OK with tools..would stop short of an engine rebuild, or a tranny rebuild.

I -am- however good with a BBQ and a smoker.

Myself..I need MMs and see whats up with the oil pan, who else could benefit from a group wrenching hug?

FWIW..I cooked up some drunken steaks I prepared at Sears Pt yesterday afternoon, that once plated..were butter knife tender, and the two nearest tables to us on the pool patio at the Inn Marin eating from the in-house restaraunt menu..asked what -we- ordered.

I love cookin..love cars, and cant wait to learn!

Congratulations from me, too!

You should propose a few possible dates that we can check against our calendars.

Note that some might be at Sharktoberfest on the weekend of October 15.

I'm afraid I can't help much with the wrenching, but I could help with the eating...

I'm always up for wrenching. Weekends are somewhat scheduled already, but there might be a spare Saturday or Sunday in there.

MM/PG is a nasty job. Last one I did, I completely ruined a set of clothes. Figure 6 hours for two people, unless you know some shortcuts. And there's not much room for more than two under there.

We have done some "group" wrenching: AC (5 cars fixed in one day), timing belts (one at a time, 3 or 4 times), rear wheel bearing (1 with lots of onlookers), but if schedules don't line up, I can help you with whatever.

Well..right now my first priority..is split between MM and TB/Tensioner.

However, I believe the wisest first fix, would be TB/Tensioner.

Still waiting for the final word on the crank endplay from CT, they did not complete that today, sadly.

They shall, tomorrow.

Are you getting a full PPI results, compression tests etc?

With both MM and TB I would pull the engine and do it on a stand, and take the opportunity to clean the engine bay and do all that other messy with an engine installed stuff.

I have most of the results from CT of the last PPI, that stopped short of the flex plate inspection...the buyer at that point hadnt done research, and saw the list as impossible for them, at the former higher price of the car.

Myself, I cant -wait- to start the front side refresh.

But pulling the motor..thats about two inches past my comfort point, unless it's somehow _really really easy_, nay idiot proof.

BILL & Nicole:

What you guys up to this weekend?

Id like to get some experienced eyes on the project, hear, learn..and dork around a little. I -will- bring something for the grill for ya..only question is, who's got the good diagnostic testers?

Cheers guys.

I would do the timing belt 1st...while MM-PG are nice....they are unlikely to grenade your motor instantly!!!

While I was joking about helping with the eating, I won't be able to do anything before the end of October.

At this time I don't even think I can make it to Sharktoberfest...
