Is anyone using Royal Purple Max ATF fluid in thier tranny? Any recomendations would be welcome. I'm going to be changing the filter, and fluid, pan gasket.
Thanks in advance, Joe

Haven't tried Royal Purple here, but I've been running Mobil 1 ATF for a few years. Need to change it again, in fact, and have had a bunch (along with filter, etc.) sitting there for a few months. It kind of fell off the "important" list for awhile.

Anyway, Mobil 1 has worked just fine on my '90 S4.

Come to think of it we had Royal Purple in my S4 and I tracked the car and didn't even think about draining and changing the fluid...SHOULD HAVE! Trans is TOAST after about 10k track miles (over about 2 years) and I would say 8k street miles. That seems unacceptable to me! Thank you Royal Purple. I am not sure that anything else would have been better or different, but RP didn't seem to work in my application anyway... By the time we went in for a fluid change it was WAY to late...

I change my ATF and filter every 30K miles, by thebook. With regular service intervals I'm not sure it matters which Dexron-compatible ATF you use, at least for street use, which for me is not just cruising in D. I used $1.38/qt Shell ATF for 60K miles, but most of the time I put M1 in.

I have used Redline type F fluid with a quart of K & W Trans-X since I bought the car in 89. Still chirps the tires when it shifts, 177K.

I have had issues with synthetics in other brands of trans (chevy) so i am not going to use any synthetics in my trans.
Steve C would be the one to ask though.
