You should use filtered water to rinse. Mr. Clean had that car wash thingy a while back that you put soap in, rinsed and then did a spot free rinse. The soap was nothing special, it worked but was expensive. The good part for those of you who get spotty water is the spot free rinse.
I use a silicone squeegee (I'll post the link but no affiliate links buried) http://www.amazon.com/Detailers-Choi...8&sr=8-1-spell
I got mine at the local car store. No scratches or anything on my black S4 from it. And those of you with a black car would agree you'll know right away if something is scratching your paint.
The Mr. Clean thing is available on Amazon and does a good job. The spot free rinse is spot free. Depending on how hard your water is you'll get between 3 and 8 washes out of a starter filter and 10-20 washes out of the full size refill filter.
Here's a link to amazon. Again no affiliation and I have not put any affiliate codes or anything in the links so I get nada from Amazon for this. I don't see them in Target or anything anymore so this may be one of the few places you can get them anymore.

I also use the Turtle Wax "black car kit" when I wax my car. It is a black cleaning compound type liquid and a black carnuba wax. Takes a bit to do everything twice but the results are pretty impressive. I get it at the auto parts store but the Amazon link will show you what it looks like.

Now if the moderators don't like this, I can drive home, lay everything out and take pictures but this was a much easier way to do it from a hotel.
Again, no affiliate links are buried in this posting. I earn quite a bit through affiliate marketing but this isn't the venue to do that, sticking to cars only. Now I do own two pretty successful sites so you want to know about tandem bicycles or birthday cake tips, recipes and post pictures, that is another story . . . .

Wash it at night under the driveway lights. You don't have to worry about water spots or having to hurry to get the water off before the sun burns them in. Plus you can't see all the imperfections in the black paint and you think it's in better shape than it is.-Gunar

I parked in the shade of a tree, and used a microfiber washcloth to push off most of the water. Wringing well between swipes. Then, I came back over it again with a dry medium sized micro fiber towel. I still had some spotting, but after applying and rubbing out some traditional turtle wax with yet another microfiber towel, the water spots were completely eliminated. I'm really interested in some black paint formula wax, because I spent an extra hour on the rubber trims and wing with Back to Black to eliminate the wax touches. This is the original paint, and has lots of minor imperfections everywhere. When it's clean like this though the imperfections don't get any attention. Black.... its the best color ever when the car is clean.... When dirty, it's the worst. Since I have had it, the body was very spotted, and the half-*** washes I had given it did not make any improvement. What it came down to is elbow grease and time. My arms are pretty sore today!
Merlin,
I have a laundry list of things this car still needs. I'm trying to get the majority of them done before SF, but I am full aware that there will always be something that needs improvement. The immediate concerns are the HVAC head and the motor mounts. Here's the Squawk Sheet.
1) REAR DECAL NEEDS REPLACEMENT/MISSING MODEL DESIGNATION
I have been trying to remove the dried up PORSCHE lettering from the rear cover. So far, I haven't had much luck with removal. I've tried all forms of cleaners, adhesive solvents, and even a little careful razor blade work. That old decal acts like it was made with flippin' diamonds. I want to replace the whole decal with silver along with the 928S designation.
2) DASH COVER WARPED/NEEDS REPLACEMENT
The hard dash cap needs to go. I'd rather have a carpet cover hiding the shredded dash than this piece-O until I can fix the dash properly. My plan is to get either a carpet or other similar material cover as a stop gap.
3) HVAC FAN NON-OP/CAUSES SMOKE WHEN ACTIVATED
I recently had my center console start pouring smoke from it when I turn on the HVAC fan. Turned it off, no smoke. Turned it on and off briefly and got a small amount of smoke. I checked the fuses, all good, so I know the circuit is still good. I've got a short in the HVAC head unit I'm assuming. I know the arm clip can fall off and cause this so I need to tear into the center console to determine the culprit. I've also read that a resistor in there can go bad... I'm going to work on this today.
4) MOTOR MOUNTS NEED REPLACEMENT
Motor mounts are shot. I am going to try and wait for a GTG for this. Anybody else in the SoCal area need to do their MM?
5) STEERING RACK BOOTS NEED R&R/SOME TIE ROD CORROSION
Steering rack boots are toast. No leaks yet, but this is just a matter of time. I figure I'll probably end up with a new rack when all is said and done, but I'm planning on putting some fresh boots in the mean time with a little light corrosion clean up.
6) MISSING GRILL
Front horizontal grill is missing.
7) NEW WHEELS AVAILABLE
Got a line on some real Club Sport wheels that a guy is hanging onto for me. I'm not sure if the fronts are 8" or not, but frankly I don't care that much. 9's and 7's will be fine. If they are 8" fronts, I'll be fine with that too. I know the fronts and rears are over 60mm offset, so I'm assuming I will have zero problem fitting them to this 84'. I think I'm going to need spacers for the rears to fit the fender correctly though.
8) SHIFTER LEATHER UNSTITCHED/DECOMPOSING
Shifter leather is pulling apart. I'm either going to have Paul re-cover this one for me, or I might go for a Garage 9 shifter with a leather boot, as the shift gate is coming apart a lot too.
9) SPEED-O NON-OP
Speed-O is intermittent. Sometimes it's working, sometimes it's not.
10) COOLING WARNING LIGHT
Coolant light and CWS light come on regularly. I know oil pressure is good, temp is good, verified with a Fluke thermometer. Temp does not climb past middle of two marks unless it's VERY hot outside. Temp usually stays right on the first mark. I believe there is a pressure switch I can check out. Resevoir cap looks old. This could be the only problem. Will replace cap, then if issue persists will delve further.
11) THE TWO DRIVER DOOR SPEAKER GRILLS NEED REPLACEMENT
That's it for now. I wish I could take a couple of weeks off work and spend it all as quality time with my car...

Mike,
You buffed too much. You wore down your rub strips down to nothing!
I only use distilled water put through a reverse osmosis process to wash and rinse my 928. I find it less abrasive. The chamois I use to dry her is made from a virgin female lamb for purity and softness.
