Hi
Once I got to 207 (which I knew would achieve my ambition of being faster than ANY production Porsche) I decided to back off, which I did...I lifted my foot completely which was probably a mistake as I suspect it unsettled the car.....it still increased to 208.10 but by then I was in trouble and knew it
The car although still moving forward was under almost no control, it seriously felt like I was sliding on oil or ice, so I did what we used to do in Top Fuel when using a Butterfly wheel after we lifted off and before we pulled the chutes.....tiny tiny movements to JUST try and keep straight, nothing more.....no braking, no nitrous adjustment...no nothing (a little praying maybe)
When the cars speed dropped to around 185, it sort of "landed" back on the surface and I had control again, although I let the speed drop to under 100 before I tried braking, and all was fine...finally.
Would I do it again.....yes, but ONLY once I have DRASTICALLY improved the aerodynamics, but at least I know that I will feel any improvement at around 185 to 190, I wouldn't top 200 again until it felt a lot better at 195 ish....and I ALSO wouldn't lift my foot straight off, I would EASE back on the power so as not to unsettle the car....which may or may not help
All the best Brett

Congratulations! Almost need to change my shorts just reading that.

Oh, brother! You were a crew chief for top fuel. You were planning 210. What planning? You didn't even tape the seams! Did you sweep the course for debris? I'm real glad you survived.

Just be careful, you might have risked your life before, but there's no need to do it for the sake of a little planning

In Top Fuel its a little different...
Firstly the track is already prepared (both the 1/4 and the shutdown)
Second its a lot quicker lol...even when testing you go out, hit the loud pedal then the chutes...and stop (mostly )
I did actually check for things like broken concrete and major flaws in the surface where I was at low speed...prior to the run...
I am not totally insane lol, just a little nuts
All the best Brett

Do you believe that it happens in Mud?
Its not like you are smoking the tires. with the HP pushing forward and the resistence increasing and the weight coming off the tires, the tires slip momentaraly on and off. thats why the calculated RPM to tire size dose not match the actual RPM

That calculator is not calibrated to the Benz transmission power loss that these 928s have. It's as simple as that.

Congrats!
And yes, some simple aero mods would be a good next step.
I agree with MarkKibort, who mentioned trying to decrease
the under-car flow, but not going overboard on the downforce stuff.
The more wings and stuff you add, the slower it will make your car.
Try starting with a lower front splitter, maybe even one you can attach
on the day of a run, so it's not so low during daily driving...

The only place with enough empty space to pull this off is in your head.
How many miles does it take to get a 928 to 125mph, and then accelerate another 83mph after activating the nitrous, and then slow down.
A "former Top Fuel crew chief" who has no understanding of aerodynamics or traction. Nobody who has ever truly been associated with organized racing would ever take safety so lightly.
Claiming an accomplishment and providing zero proof is a slap in the face to others that have actually been there and done that.
Damn, it's after 8pm! I gotta go for my nightly swim to texas.

Crashed at 199 MPH in one of our open road races. Walked away BECAUSE of full rollcage, arm restraints, head restraint system, 6-point harness, fuel cell, fire suppression. You KNOW you need this stuff, as well as the aero mods. Sorry to preach to a former top fuel crew chief, but your casual attitude has me wondering what you are thinking. This is far more dangerous than wheel-to-wheel track racing.

Hi All
I am listening to all views as it might well save me or my car....
About power...I have a lot to spare so if the downforce front or rear will help but slow a normal 928, that is not a problem with my Nitrous system...as I can easily increase the power if needed although I would do it in small amounts, of around 50 or 100 hp a time as i prefer to keep my daily driver in one piece...
Which is my second point....any alterations to the aerodynamics must either not affect its driveability or be of a type that can be fitted for runs and removed for normal road use...
At the moment I have precisely 3 inches clearance under the front spoiler which make going over sleeping policemen almost impossible as it is...
All the best Brett
