Hi All

Well I did it…. 208.10 MPH

Over 208 mph….which I figure makes a UK RECORD for 928`s and also is faster than any model of Porsche as it leaves the factory.

Figures are as follows… although some have been deleted due to location and information I am not willing to share on the Internet lol.
Any local 928 or Porsche owner are welcome to come see the proof.

Nitrous pressure – Start - 975
Finish - 680

Amount of Nitrous used, just under 700 hp, hard to be precise but an educated guess is 680 ish.

Damage to my car…lost both wiper blades at around 190 mph and now breathing oil a little more heavily from offside (camcover gasket I suspect) , also lost a bolt from engine undertray when grounded during the final run and twisted the tray a little, but still driving daily to work.

Impressions of the run…..I activated the Nitrous at around 125 mph and it started really pulling hard and just kept going….at around 180 plus the car started going “light” (only way I can explain it…a bit like aquaplaning) it got lighter and lighter although still accelerating and when I saw 207 on my GPS speedo , I backed it off and that’s when it got REALLY light it was like travelling on oil not funny at all , the back end was worse than the front by far.

It seemed to “drop” back onto the surface at around 185 ish (decelerating) and I had grip again which was a huge relief.

If I ever do it again I need to do something about pushing the back end in particular down onto the surface.
Any advice on rear aerodynamics welcome….

Was it as easy as I expected….no it was MUCH harder…from around 180 to 190 although the Nitrous was pushing me at the same rate I was not accelerating as fast and seemed to be slowing although still accelerating ….aerodynamics I guess.

Was it worth it? YES

Future aims? Not decided yet but possibly 220 mph.

Congratulations on the achievement. That is an impressive speed! I would work on aerodynamics though before I attempting 220 MPH having the back end come around wouldn't be fun at 200.

You are correct, take my word it wasn't fun when it went light

I will not try 200 plus again until the rear aerodynamics are sorted, I know some American 928 owners have done over 220, but I assume they did NOT have the standard 928S2 rear spoiler lol ?

That seemed ok until around 180 , then it seemed to be not working at all

It was "change my trousers" time when I lifted off

But at least I learnt a lot about the 928s capabilities

I intended to go a lot faster, but once it went light , I decided to just take the Porsche top speed record (from the factory) , it just didn't feel safe to keep accelerating although the new Wizards of NOS Revo system was fantastic and was still pulling hard and had a LOT of power left.

I think what I really learnt was that Top speed is NOT just about power, its about how the car handles it even more....

My S2 handled it very well until around 180, then it sort of got lost lol

I think its called "exceeding the design specifications" lol

Going lite on my 68 Vett it start about 120 says a lot for the year car and no large spoiler.

Mine is the older Gps data logger that only holds current data on screen.

By the way, I wanted to ask you a question.... the "Octane Loop" green wire... by the ECU`s ..is there any reason (electrical or restistance etc) that I cannot extend it to a toggle switch on my dash , so I can bring in the retard at the flick of a switch ?

Did you tape up all the hood seams and anything like that? Might help a bit with down force.

Congratulations, amazing achievment!

Have you looked at a front splitter to reduce the under air intake? I think they also help reduce the front lifting. Several on this board have built one for your model/year. For the rear you may have to add or change your rear spoiler for the later S4 style or one of the big nascar style. Good luck and stay safe.

Why not hook up a little video camera on the interior to show the speedo?

Not to sound like a broken record here, how about a re-cap of your safety system? IIRC it wasn't much more than stock which scares the bajesus out of me at these speeds. I would go for a full cage for this kind of speed attempt. All the time / money already sunk into this project, a cage is hardly a budget or time breaker.

+1 on aero mods. Just starting with an S4 tail, taped up seams, nose, chin splitter etc... would make a world of difference.

Here is a Factory Five Daytona Coupe at Bonneville where it reached 216.9mph. It's aero mods are quite obvious, the side skirts would be a somewhat simple addition to a 928. I also like the idea of a parachute. If **** hits the fan, it can be the difference between walking away and being carried.
