very true

how difficult would it really be to find another couple thousand dollars for the car you WANT!

I'm buying a really nice 1983 5 speed today. 70,000 original miles. Cylinder 8 and cylinder #1 both have coolant in them, from "old" head gaskets. Car has been sitting for 3-4 years...not because of this, but because of a bad relay. We replaced the relay, got it started, and it put water into the heads, when the cooling system got pressure. Presumably the gaskets got "finished off" from sitting there. Who knows what we find when we remove the heads (?), but I don't think there has been water in this engine for 3-4 years.

Here's the point. Although this is a really nice car, by the time I'm done, I'll still have 10K invested. But it will be very fresh and in very good condition. Although the cars have low value, they still cost a bunch to fix. The pieces are still expensive. But when done, they are great cars.

Not to mention aero mirrors and sport seats. That car needs to be looked at.

Looks are not a big part of my 928 world. Clean, straight, fresh bits, always starts, never strands, eats 911's and most everything else, that's my 928 experience or what I work towards. I don't let my beasts sit, I drive the **** out of them, and being a little dull in the paint is a good thing to me. I'd rather have Kempf alignment numbers, fat tires, good shocks, and a twisty road. Putting a 30 year old back into shape to do that kind of stuff... priceless. So starting with a decent 5spd example for under 3k is a helluva bargain to me, just needs some bits, some labor, and some loud pedal.

+1 Don't get me wrong. I love a good looking car, but I love a car that performs even more.

Yep.. mentions it needs oil pan and cam cover gaskets, so it needs a DIY'er to do intake and MM/OPG at least, but the steering wheel alone is $400 worth.

Oi! Porken! Why are you still reading this? You should be on your way there now!!

Saw this car today. Greg got himself a really nice car. Red/tan, no rubstrips, 5-speed, LSD, great paint, good clean/straight interior, only a few small fissures starting at the defrost vents. But who better to spend $10K on a $5K car?

We will know tomorrow how good/bad it is. My son and I are going to remove the heads in the morning. Hopefully it will just have "eaten" head gaskets and the block and heads will still be good. You just never know, until you dig in.

These lower mileage cars that didn't get the coolant changed can be a real mess.

I'm just waiting on my stars to align!

I just realized that I really didn't appreciate "Sexual Chocolate" as much as I should have! After Sean worked on it and I did a few little things that car ran great and was real fun to drive! Sure I still had to fix the A/C and do something about the interior but boy do I miss her now.

There are some deals out there on cars. You however must act quickly. You also need to have cash. Most people price a car at what would make them happy however often they will agree to be less happy. It is a negotiation no matter if they say firm price no lowball etc.etc. most when shown a big stack of 100 bills start thinking. Like the factory five I can buy for $17,500. The deals get bought quickly.

Well one thing is for sure if Greg ever decides to sell it, nobody in their right mind will have to worry IF the work that has been done, was done correctly.
My guess is that car is going to end up with some really nice one of a kind parts.

I think it is great that Greg got this car.
