Oh, yeah... I saw that one, and it scared me... so I made sure to triple clean everything that was blasted... I cleaned oil ports, and bores, etc... there was an incredible amount of blast media that came out. I only stopped when no more media was washing out. I spent quite some time cleaning the insides of things!!

Thanks for the warning... That's a hell of a quick way to ruin an engine.

USB drive isn't working.... have new pics to share... but computer isn't cooperating... working on that problem!!

Drivers side bodywork is straightened out, epoxied, primed, block sanded, and nearing perfection!

Roof dings repaired, windshield frame and roof are epoxied, and blocked.

Mirrors, gas cap door, door handles, all epoxied block sanded and ready for paint.

Both front and rear bumpers have been walnut blasted and coated with epoxy, and have been blocked out and imperfections being worked out.

Transmission has been gone through and cleaned out, and replaced seals, filters and oil, and is re-installed.

Rear sway bar and lower control arms were repainted and match body color.

Rear hubs, dust covers have been thoroughly scrubbed clean and look brand new.

All the way around calipers are rebuilt, with fresh seals. New wheel bearings up front along with new grease seals, replaced 1 bent tie rod end.

Dressed and cleaned up the steering rack, installed brand new boots.

Replaced 1 aluminum ball joint with steel (the other side was already converted).

Re-painted inner front fender wells gloss black.

Chased wiring back through the front of the car.

Thoroughly bathed and scrubbed the entire bottom side of the car... (without torque tube, and tranny.... its very clean!!)



Currently: (waiting on rain to stop and warmer weather to return to finish epoxy on passenger side).

Re-threading the cam cover access plugs on the tops... (big thanks to my powdercoat guy for F__king those up royally, then not taking responsibility to fix them)....

Water bridge, t-stat elbow, and fan mount heading off for powdercoat tomorrow... to a different pc shop...

Tonight Re-assembling rear suspension.

Tomorrow re-assembling cam covers again and re-installing onto the engine... at which time I can re-time and chase vacuum lines, electrical and continue on with the engine.

Will be torquing the starter ring and flex plate and torque tube tomorrow.

All the dust/heat shields for exhaust have been scrubbed clean of road debris and stains, will install those and the entire exhaust is scrubbed and up for a re-spray in high temp flat black. Crack in the catalytic converter/dp has been welded and is ready for respray and re-install.

Wish I could duplicate myself, and my wallet, cause I really want to drive this baby!

That looks awsome! What do you use to clean the aluminum castings with?

That's a trade secret!!! Just kidding!

I use eagle one for rough aluminum castings. It's an etching cleaner for non clear coated rough cast aluminum wheels. It's getting harder and harder to find. Usually can get it at autozone... $7 for about half of a windex spray bottle size.

Spray it on wait 5 minutes and either powerwash for heavy stains first or wire brush the cleaner into the aluminum. Don't leave it on too long b/c it will stain the aluminum white.

No problem! Good luck with your project! I'm enjoying mine, but have a burning itch to drive it. Since I bought it it's driven less than 1 mile... I decided it would be an embarrassment to the breed to drive it the way it looked!!!

How much fluid goes into the fan clutch... I know to use toyota fluid?
I haven't looked in the service manual but where is #1 position on the distributor??

I decided I didn't like the red powder coating on the fuel lines, they looked out of place next to the gold and arena red.... So all the fuel lines and regulators are now body matched and clear coated.

Last night
Rebuilt the timing tensioner.
Cam covers re-assembled and remounted with all new seals.
Timed the motor and slipped the timing belt on to see how things lined up.
Injectors cleaned, and re-assembled with new seals.
Throttle body scrubbed out and re-sealed.
Remounted the coil, and oil overflow for power steering.

Currently:
Completely duplicating old vacuum hose setup, everything is being replaced with black silicone hoses and brand new tees.
Installing rear coolant hoses to heater core, and a/c lines.
Cleaned and scrubbed out the distributor replaced oil seal and replaced green wire.
Throwing a charge on the battery. (Inspiration)

Antique Gold a special order color... so they need two weeks for three pieces, but I bought 2 lbs of powder so I'll have it for future powder coat improvements. I was very very specific as to what the pc shop did this time...

Need to do some further cleaning of the inside of the timing belt covers.
Need to get a new timing tensioner boot.
Need two new cam cover plugs...
Need some fluid to fill the fan clutch.

The most time consuming part of it all... Having to read my notes, whilst looking at the old pictures! It was all the same color.... grease and filth!


I'm still working on the usb problem...

Lots of progress this week...

The entire top end of the motor re-assembled.
All brand new silicone vacuum tubing.
All other rubber rubber hoses replaced.
All linkages re-attached.
Engine harness was fed back through motor after repairs were made to the harness.
Test fit a brand new ac delco cs130 alternator (chevy camaro 88 2.8 v6, thanks to "toofast928" on this topic)

Engine is complete up to the timing belt. Waiting on Tensioner Bellow.

Scrubbed and cleaned the entire exhaust system. Repainted entire exhaust from headers back with 2000 degree flat black high temp paint. Rehung and mounted with brand new hardware, and seals.

Power steering, Transmission cooler, and fuel lines off to be rebuilt today.
Radiator has been scrubbed and cleaned out. I will be repainting it today.

I cannot get the usb drives working so I'll post pics soon.

That color is gorgeous. I can't wait to see how mine turns out!

I'm going to attempt to start the motor next week. Any suggestions? Hasn't run in a year. I used assembly lube on all the rotating parts, on the cams, and the stp Stan recommended on the oil pump.

I usually crank the motor around a couple times once it's filled with oil to get some oil on the top end without the coil wire on so it can't fire.

Then plug in the coil in and see what happens... Hopefully I have appeased the Porsche gods, and given this old car well deserved justice for it's previous owners abusive habits.
