Pic Updates post 79

Here's the filthy old girl when I started!

Now 12 months later... The engine bay re-spray complete..

Master/Booster brakes, etc.

Firewall, 83 crossmember etc.

Passenger side overflow bottle cubby hole... (fyi if you're trying to paint inside of those spots... probly should have a touch up gun or a small siphon gun... cause I had a real hard time getting the gun in this corner.

No flash...

The engine compartment looks better than most exterior paint jobs. Would make me want to get in there wash and buff it once a week!

Thanks...

I need motivation... cause that engine bay was a royal pain in the keester to sand for HOURS... on end... what a mess... results paid off, but my hands are still sore!!!

I powerwashed 4 seperate times, and hand bathed the bay 4x with washrags and hot soapy water, and spraying it down with oil eater repeatedly to get all the grease out of the crevices...

Last night... I took the a/c condensor, and dryer unit apart, cleaned all the rock n bugs out of them, washed, scuffed and repainted... Wiring harnesses have been cleaned, and I'm working on repairing them... Heads went to machine shop for a quick deck, and valve job... next weekend should have the motor completely re-sealed and re-installed.

Once the engine runs good.... need to look over the transmission, it seems to be leaking out of the torque convertor inspection cover... bad seal probably but I'm not sure what that's about at the moment.

Very inspirational. Very nice. Did you paint the car yourself? If so, please share details.

Thanks, and yes. I have done all of my own wrenching, painting, sanding! What an interesting and well designed vehicle.

What would you like to know is more the question!

Paint code is 84R "Arena red"
I sanded out every imperfection I could find, knocked off almost all of the welding slag (there was a lot of that)...
Washed off grease for a week straight.
2 heavy coats of primer
4 nice even coats of base (3 is the norm... but this is a pearl metallic, and I wanted to be absolutely sure there were no light/dark spots, and no tiger striping)
4 nice clear coats!

I sprayed the underside of the rails where the wiring goes, all the shutz, on top of the inner fenders, 1/2 way down the inside of the hvac section... IMO if I'm going to tear this car this far apart... I don't want to be able to open the hood or crawl underneath and see that it was repainted... Besides what's the point of powder coating the intake, and then the black paint is flaking off of the sides of the bay!!!

I can't wait to get it back together and go on a cruise and meet some of you guys at a get together!

ARENA RED...YUMMY!!!! Chuck are there any Arena red GTS's out there? I always that the car would look SPECTACULAR in that color. Very close to Ruby red (probably why I like that color so much too!)
