Default Brake help needed on race car

I've come to the conclusion that my race car brakes are just to sensative. This weekend I experimented with disconnecting the booster and what I'd really like is someting in between. With the booster connected there just is not enough pedal feel and it is very easy to lock up the brakes. With no boost it is difficult to blip the throttle as it takes so much pedal effort. I was wondering the effect of a smaller booster or a larger master cylinder.
That said I did take first in class and third overall in my 928 this weekend at Fontana. Some new guy in a 2008 RSR got on his radio and asked his crew " what the hell is that car in my mirrors"

I suggest some squats and leg lifts

Good job on the first place!!!!! It's fun watching you spank all the newer breeds.

LOVE IT! If you were 3rd overall who beat you??? I didn't think ANYTHING could whip the Beast!!!!

I wish I could help you on your technical question, but I have NO IDEA! You should post this over on the OT Racing boards. Those guys have probably played around with M/C more than most of us here. I can tell you those dual tilton's you have in my race car (your old car) I could not push on them hard enough by hand to get the thing to slow down, so we went to those dual remote vacuum operated M/C's that are actuated by the Tiltons. They too are kind of on and off...not a huge amount of feel...but very strong...that is what I really needed at this point anyway.

Mike Simard has created something you may wish to speak with him about. It involves separate pedal assembles and custom arms. I do not believe it uses the stock pieces in any way. It may be your ticket to proper brake feel.

Hey Mark- Brendan is right- you may need to switch to a Tilton pedal assy- or, didn't the early cars have smaller booster? You may also be able to put a small needle-valve bleed in the vacuum line to the booster to regulate how much vac the booster sees. I realize this makes an air leak in the intake, but I think it may be small enough only affect idle. You could live with 2500rpm idle, right?

The issue with the smaller booster is that I am not sure it will create more "feel". As those of us who have driven a pickup truck or SUV or VAN which has lost its booster can relate - non-booster braking is no fun - and it has no real pedal feel to speak of either.

Real race systems have little boost, but are also designed to have great "feel".

I am saying nothing Mr. Anderson does not know, but its been an issue with me. I trail brake alot, and pedal feel is really important.

If someone were to move to a left foot braking situation, pedal feel becomes even more important.

No bias anymore. With the 14" fronts I can use full power to the rears.

Try the bleed- you get needle valve at Orchard and stick it in with a cheap Tee to see if it helps-...

I would call the Tilton people and explain the problem. I bet they can help you.

Good Job on the race finish.

Cheers,
Joe

I really would prefer to keep the set up as close to stock as possible.
