Of the parts you offering, yes that's the case. Unless, as I said, one is replacing the whole suspension, but in that case the calipers and rotors are often included.

sounds like a great mod as we have discussed. S4 brakes, for the OBs, by using the 993 standard rotors, right? what about the 84 chassis? same thing?or is there a different axial to radial mount adapter?

who cares about the dust shields. cut those bad boys out!

Mark, there are also brake lines that have to be replaced, and if one cares to convert to the S4 setup of one wear sensor per pad there is some wiring needed.

For the 84 it's all the same story EXCEPT you need early spindles. 78/79 work, I think '80 spindles are OK too but not positive about that.

I cared enough about the dust shields to obtain them, bead blast, prime and paint them. Other may not care at all. I offered the info for those that do care. Despite the unimaginative name, dust shields also prevent all sorts of road gunk and splash from getting into the inner seal area and causing premature wear of the seal; also it's of some help keeping crud out of the ABS rings.

doesn't dust shield also deflect air into the rotor?

Not exactly. Later cars have air deflectors on the lower control arm that deflect air toward the backside of the disk, and the front part of the dust shield has a large opening that allows the air in. It also has that cup spot-welded to the center that shields the seal.

So, there must be a way to get a flat plate adapter with parallel holes to fit the 84 system and a larger diameter rotor that has an equal amount of offset. I know we have isssues with the S4 rotors on the 84s of hitting the lower control arm ball joint, correct? so, are there any rotors of larger size that can have a larger offset than the 84 rotors? lets say its .5", if that works, we could use a .5" plate with threads to mount the calipers to a steel or aluminum plate. if.5" is not thick enough to thread safely, then we might be able to use a nut on the end of the caliper bolts.

so, any rotors like 996 or 993 that have an offset that is between the 84 and the S4? that would be a trick mod if there was. I did find one, but it was a mercedes and needs new 5 bolt hole pattern to be drilled, and would almost be hubcentric, and needs a little inner hub machining to fit. for how cheap those rotors are, that would be an excellent set up, and inexpensive, even with the machining costs.

I'll be looking at a new option to put the 4 piston calipers on early suspension, I think a Nascar disc may be an option with a alloy hat. I will use a thicker disc as I will run the F50 calipers from the 14" discs. They can run a 32 mm disc, I can't remember how thick S4 discs are?

Mark, I would think that if it was easy to adapt Brembos to the mid-year cars our suppliers would offer solutions other than early spindles/late suspension. I don't know the details, but I'm sure lots of people would be interested in a practical solution. Knock yourself out!

The F50 caliper is very close to the S4 caliper (same pad size) 32mm thickness is what our stuff is . (i.e. 928 S4)
