OK, I figured out how you did this. I think it involved 90 degree drill bits. I just ordered a set online.

Nice work.

Have you considered hard anodizing the aluminum alloy pully in order to reduce in service wear?

Will the rebuilt cost be less than a new pump from Porsche (Sunset)? I was under the impression that a new pumps from Porsche are highly reliable, while the rebuilts from various sources were of questionable quality (especially the rebuilts of unknown source that were once sold by 928 International).

No.The pulley is not aluminum.
The price will be much less than a Porsche unit.

Pretty slick!

I think the shear drive is overkill, but it certainly covers all the WP bases.

That's just beautiful science right there. Just pretty. I need a few of those.

It looks very nice Ed. Lots of obvious work and attention to detail in the design.
Pulley diameter at the belt is identical to original.I didn't want any issues that might affect timing belt length or tension.
Flow capacity is the same no changes to that yet.Out of respect for him I know of someone working on such an impellor and discussed possibly incorporating it at the same time as this.Until I hear from him,my lips are sealed.
I asume you are asking about the timing belt tension sensor and no does not affect it in any way. Stock timing cover fits also with no cutting or modification.
Thanks for the kind words. It may not look like much but there is alot going on there. Ed

Will you be accepting suitable cores from customers with the intention of modifying/rebuilding them? I like a few others here have a functioning spare that was removed due to mileage rather than failure. Would be nice to get some use out of it!

This coming from someone who designed the Porkensioner belt tension system!

This water pump design should give every 928er a huge comfort when installed since most of the catastrophic problems we've had with the belt system has been due to the water pumps.

In our opinion, overkill in this water pump design is a great thing, especially the shear drive! No more worries about throwing a belt if the water pump impeller bearings seize and it's captured design will not allow the pulley to walk off the shaft. Sweet!

Cheers,

I gotta say that this is absolutely freakin' brilliant! Outstanding work, Ed. I guess I'm out of excuses for not doing my TB and WP in all this time...

Add me to the list of those who will use this solution on the next TB/WP job (hopefully not too soon). Great execution of a really smart idea.
