Rending of garments is appropriate for anger, anguish, and rage. Sackcloth and ashes are appropriate when one feels remorse, repents, and is sorry. Horses for the courses.

In all seriousness, I would like to keep this thread mostly about my twin turbo car, which is a gasoline-powered car with an engine that is based on the stock 928 engine. I would rather not talk about E85, my cell phone, what other cars I drive, etc. I shudder with fear at the thought of someone finding out that I just bought my wife a 2014 AMG GL 63, for example.

Better than her finding out you bought it for someone else. There would be the aforementioned rending, sackcloth and ashes, if I did it.

That is of course on top of the E63. I am not normally the jealous type. In Fact very rarely if ever. The two new MB in one 12 month period is testing me though.

Meh, 63, Sixtyschmee. When's the next dyno video gonna happen? You'll be driving smoky circles around the Benzes.

Not to worry Tuomo,

At least you didn't go out and buy a new CL65 AMG, and a new SLS Black Series AMG in the same 12 month period like the crazy guy that lives down the road from me..

He gave his wife a Ford Raptor, and now she just filed for divorce..

(He should have given her that GL63..!!)

Sorry, Back to the turbo 928..!!

It hasn't yet been dynoed with these turbos.

There's now an expectational and not just aspirational goal to start the car on the coming Sunday. After that, it's several days of debugging and shakedown. When there are no known problems left, the car will get strapped on a dyno and we'll try to run the same boost curves as with the old turbos to see what happen to the results, the prediction being a modest increase (<5%) in the power at the same boost compared to the smaller turbos because of lower exhaust pumping work. If the result is as expected, then the fun will start and we'll be exploring new territory.

Looking forward to the updates. Keep up the excellent work on this project!

If life gets too hard over there you can always come here and buy her '88 Toyota Corolla.

PS. I might have one more GTS cam set for you if you still want them. Problem is that set is still in use and there are no immediate plans to change S3 set in its place even though it will eventually happen.

Default Ignition

The car started fine. All the new fluid lines work, there were no leaks (after the plugs were installed), and everything is working fine. There are no thermal barrier coatings or paints yet, those will be put on when the system comes off with the stock engine later this spring. Next, it's shakedown and controller testing, etc. Not close to a dyno run yet, but getting closer.

Here are some photos:

All the fluid plumbing is in place in this photo. The clutch line is stock and routed in a safe but temporary way. All other fluid lines are pretty much the permanent solution. Downpipes will be TBC coated later, the cold side plumbing powder coated.

The exhaust is a bit loud for these new turbines. It was already loud with the earlier, smaller turbines. Alternative exhaust options would be including cats, extra mufflers, cross-overs, unequal dual path remerge, etc. The current zero-loss exhaust is ideal for testing, however.

For testing new exhausts and cats, the downpipe has a conveniently located pressure port. We can keep making it quieter as long as the pressure at this point doesn't increase above a set threshold. There are ways to kill soundwaves without much pressure loss, and it'll be an interesting project downt he road.

The low pressure and high pressure piping, disconnected for a photo op. You can see the sizes. The critical thing is to make the low-pressure pipe flow with minimum restriction. The high pressure piping, especially upstream of the intercooler, is less critical. Therefore, the available real estate was logically used to prioritize the low-pressure pipe in terms of large size and long-radius turns.

Turbo oil sumps can be drained during an oil change with minimal effort. The oil sumps and the scavenge pump are now part of an integral system with the crankcase breather system. There will likely be some further revisions to the breather system on the top, mainly to accomplish what needs to be accomplished in a better-packaged, more space efficient way.

I like you alternator air inlet screen too. Even that looks classy!
Great work throughout!
