Finished priming the bumpers and head light covers. Went ahead and removed the rest of the interior to make taping a little easier. Will recover dash, pod. Fix OD gear and replace radio. Have been having a BIG moisture condensation on the inside of the windshield after when in use. Any ideas while I have the dash out???

I also removed the sound barrier from the shifter all the way back. Must of been 30 pounds.

Your condensate is likely a pin hole leak in the heater core which should be easy to get to now that everything is out of the car! Could be something else, but you say it happens when in use and that is classic heater core. If it steamed up when the car was sitting in the sun not being used then it would be a leak made the floormats and floor of the car wet and that is steaming up...but in use is generally heater core.

Man, I wish I had a shady spot with a fan for my jobs.

Is that trash bag filled with insulation? Are you going to install any sort of replacement insulation?

Lot of sun in VA Beach. Hot. Don't you have access to a car hobby shop on-base?

Dean, I did something similar, must have gotten 150lbs of soundproofing out of the car. Of course, I made that weight back up by adding complicated S4 seats.

Default Nice work.

I'm following closely to see your results! My 80 is in a similar boat. Full repaint, interior out, insulation out, carpets out. I'm repainting the engine bay as well.

I'm going to use the SPI epoxy, 2k hs, and their clear, on the body as well, and bulldog for the bumper skins.

What b/c are you using? PPG is what SPI recommended to me.

Nice work so far.

Probably going to use DuPont just because all the products I've used o far are Nason which is made by them.

the condensate is either a leaking heater core or the windshield seal is leaking at the base now might be a time to remove the windshield and reseal it,
if you can get it out without breaking it

I haven't had the pleasure of removing my S4 seats yet...are you saying they are heavier than 8 way OB seats??? Good Lord! These seats I though were just too much weight...but I don't have any light weight manual seats so they will have to do. Garrett is not looking for a racer...just a good reliable COOL car. This will fill the bill nicely I think. From day one 2 1/2 years ago this car will crank and run anywhere any time without issue. To think some people think these are unreliable is a JOKE...they just need care and they will run with the best of them even 30 later.

Just needed to do some cleaning today. Tried re-gluing the dash pad down with 3M 08090 adhesive. Letting the clamps stay on over night and will see how it looks tomorrow. Thinking a lot about Devon lately...he would of been 28 on the 19th. I don't know what I'm going to do when this car is finished.

One little tip--allow as much time as you can between the primer coat and the color coat. Give the primer plenty of time to cure and shrink. When regular body shops process cars they're in a hurry. The best paint work comes with time--patience. The more your primer can shrink, the better it will be.

Well paint time is almost here. After being derailed for awhile I'm back at it. Garrett has picked a final color but tomorrow he and I will shoot a couple more test panels to make sure. This is 2009 HEMI ORANGE PEARL...One pic in shade, one in sun and one next to his new seats. We will try another test with MORE PEARL added and one with more red. If he goes with one of those it will be a custom mix and the formula will be saved for future use.

On my monitor it looks like a slightly faded Guards Red.

just a note you will have the biggest effect with pearl in the clear, put the most pearl into the lower or first few coats then the top coast would have less pearl in them so you can buff the clear without taking off much of the pearl. Adding the pearl to the base coat wont do as much or change the color

I can't wait to see how this turns out. I'd love to pick up an OB project and paint it a shade of orange. Lotus offered the Esprit (and the Elise) in a shade called chrome orange, which I really like.

If one of these $500 lemons candidates that the guys on the west coast seem to find ever shows up around here, I'm going to buy it and paint it either yellow or orange.
