It was Doc Mohr and Jay Kempf that started the friday BRP tour to SITM. I didn't even know who they were the first year I went. It is a little slower with us now as a group, but the emphasis is on safety, being somewhat responsible, and having a good time.
I feel it is a great tradition worth keeping alive. We usually have 12 928s for 285 miles of BRP.
We don't have as many run-ins with the rangers, and everyone has a good time. Be there or be square...
Pic is from 2008 I think.

Yep there is still very few days in between each time I think of Scott (Doc Mohr)! "Scott's" GTS is in my garage right now and has been for awhile. I walk up and just look at it on occasion ( I know Tom, I need to work on it, not look at it)
Some of the best times we ever had driving together at a 928 event was with him in his 944 Turbo and my 90 GT all over his butt!!
He was in front of me working those gears hard (trying to stay on the turbo) aproaching each turn of the Dragon and squealing his tires in the middle of each turn.... I never had the heart to tell him I was in 2nd gear while talking to Jeannie :-)
What fantastic memories, thanks for the reminder!
I still miss my pal badly, sometimes I still can't believe it and have found myself looking around hoping to see him every at SITM since then. One of the guys that comes to SITM looks a lot like Scott from behind... I have to stop myself each and every time from running up and grabbing him...that sucks! (not gonna mention who it is).
Damit, gotta go outside and walk around so Jeannie doesn't see me.. if she does and asks why then she will be upset too...

This is so true. For me it is a pilgrimage and family reunion. Every year is a little different (this year looks to be vastly different) and gives a new dimension to the experience. Get to meet new people, hug old friends, stay up to ridiculous hours drinking beer. It's all good.
As I reflect on my previous years...
For me the first year was all about the destination. Drove along the BRP... that was fun.
The second year... I think I killed those brain cells. Oh yeah.... the nitrous probably had something to do with that.
The third year, I experienced the Tail of the Dragon and I got my GT SC'd. That was a special SITM for me.
The fourth year it was all about the drive. Unfortunately, my car broke down 15min into the journey and I ended up being a passenger with someone else. We drove the Tail of the Dragon, and a whole bunch of other really cool roads. This was the year where the journey was just as important as the destination. What an awesome trip ... and I didn't even have my car!
The fifth year was a great trip. Managed to hit the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway. That road was made for the 928. Super fun times. After the pack broke up a bit, there were three of us tearing through the back roads of NC/TN. This was the year I got to introduce Davek9 to the SITM experience. He had a great time.
Last year it rained the whole way there. It actually was still a lot of fun. We really learned how hard we can push the cars int he rain (not that hard) before we reach the limitations of sanity. But as soon as we pulled into Banner Elk, the clouds parted and you could feel the 928 Gods were smiling down upon us.
Stuff happens that may prevent you from taking your 928 to the event. If this happens, sure you might get a razzing from the crowd, but it's all in good fun. If you can't drive your own car, I highly suggest you ride shotgun in another 928. There's just something about riding in a long (or short) line of 928's that completes the experience.
Looking forward to my seventh straight SITM! With the new venue, it should add a unique dimension to the experience.
Can you believe it? Only 8 weeks away! I cannot wait!

Subject: Your MCC Event Invitation
Thank you for submitting an event for consideration.
We do get a lot of invitations, but we consider every one we receive. And as it turns out, most of the events you see featured on our TV show are ones we learned of through viewer submissions of invitations.
All information is kept of file so even if we can not get to your event this year, we might be able to in the future.
Notice: This email has been sent from an email that is not checked. Please do not reply to this message as it will not be recieved.
OK, so who's the wise guy that submitted SITM for My Classic Cars?????
Wasn't me and it wasn't Jeannie!
TOO FUNNY!!!
IF they were to show up, whoever did it has to take the host (forgot his name) for a ride in their 928!!

Right on Andrew!
I'll reflect on mine here--
First year. Met with Carl and the Boston crew in Waynesboro after getting lost, I just had to take rT 211 west, then head north, just to head south again the next day. I have never seen another warning sign like it, with a "DANGER" and a motorcycle upside down and a dude flying through the air. Started struggling with overheating though.
Running down skyline and the parkway, we got spread out as I had to keep stopping to top off coolant. Issue was getting worse, but I did miss the ranger run in. By the time I got to the hotel, the end tank was failing. I became a passenger while my sick shark sat and I tried to figure out how to get it home. Shared a lot of support! And beer! Found I could get it home with the coolant cap open and running slow, topping off every 120mi or so. Big damage had already been done. Pulled tHe motor a month or two later with wrecked headgaskets and warped heads.
Second one! Motor's on the floor on Friday, intake is in a box. Plan on leaving the next Thursday. Racing with blown87 to get our cars finished, hundreds of miles apart! Got it running on Monday for a few minutes. Tuesday I discovered a torn passenger side cam seal. Cut the timing belt off in frustration and pulled the gear, called Jeannie to have the parts I needed on hand. Drove down in my wife's car with a decent supply of beer to share! Had a great time. Blown87 made it only to execute a turkey on the way home! Got home, finished up the cam seal and timing belt job.
I can't wait until I get there this year!

I had forgot about our race, you would have won that one if not for the seal.
Mine was not done until the night before we left, was not sure that everything had gotten done, but it made it with almost no issues.

I believe the meathead with the supercharged silver 87 that lost his tranny (not ******* andrew!) and hitched a ride home with AO and got his dead shark home via trailer (not before dave and jeannie had to throw blankets on said dead shark when a freak hailstorm hit the robert's compound) then pulled the tranny (not ******* andrew!) with the help of the detroit mafia bosses (dave k and dennis, not you andrew, you're a captain!) )then got gamekeepers thumb which postponed the tranny repair (repeat said joke) then got the tranny back in just in time for a weeks worth of blown driving (wheeeeeee!!) before the snow flew then decided to fix the gushing oil leaks (cue dave k) in the early winter when roads were clear enough then i'm still waiting for the f%*!!@#$ing dude with the shark tuner.... everybody sing, 'ANDREW!!!' then one or two more things to fix like cruise and A/C since you never know when its gonna be warm/hot in banner elk then.....
