Need pictures of wheels. Also, don't be surprised if one day you find the black wheels "mysteriously" swapped with silver ones…

He bragged about that unit, and I just didn't have the heart or the time to let him sit/ride/drive in my S4 during the initial visits.

Other optional stuff considered standard on the US cars like cruise control will be a much bigger challenge for James. If you think CC is to keep your foot from getting tired on trips, think about how much fun it is with hand controls. It may be that CC could be retrofitted with used parts from Mark A or another donor car. That's something I didn't think about until after the car was in Texas already and James brought it up.

The car looks a lot better in the big garage there than it did in K's driveway. That's the way she sees it anyway.
Oops, I skipped a few pages so I missed the fact that this was already pointed out.
Thanks for the clarification, Doc.

Another thing it is missing that I just noticed since I have had the car at the house for a few days (but the wife STILL does not know about it! LOL!) is that it is also missing the rear wheel spacers! It has the short lug studs and no spacers at all on it! Sure hoping my new wheels fit! If not I'll pull the bolt on spacers off my '81 and then buy another set for that car later.

Another note... Thoughts about paint for the rotor hats? I was thinking gray or black (that would go with the wheels for sure) and was leaning towards something I can brush on... I just don't want to screw with having to take the rotor off the car!

James, there's a RustOleum 'Hammered BlacK that is black and dark grey highlights. Prep is minimal in the big picture, mostly because they want yo to brush off loose stuff, clean off grease etc, then just brush it on over any surface rust. It supposedly neutralizes rust it comes in contact with. Get the brush-on, not the spray-on, and the hammer tone and texture will be better. I'm sure there are pictures somewhere here where it's been used. I painted our previously-black security gate with it and got nice comments from the neighbors. Did the steel on my rolling workbench at the same time and it looks great too. Biggest benefit on rotors is that it looks great even with a little brake dust on it-- you just don't see it on the hammered finish. This is a Home Depot or Lowes item in the paint department, easy and inexpensive.

Bob, thanks for the rec. I'll go pick some up tomorrow and be ready when the new wheels arrive!

Here is a wheel question... Do you think the 10" (not sure of offset) Carrera Lightweights will fit w/o the spacer since this car does not have them? If not I'll get my 1" bolt ons off the '81.

James,

My car isn't running a spacer. They obviously will not fit with the stock spacer. It think max you could run is maybe 5mm. I've got a 295 on the rear also! I think Mark cut down the stock lugs, because they were obviously very long. If you had open-ended lug nuts you would be good to go also.

Jon are you running the 10" rim or the 11"? Mine are the 10" and if yours are too then I am in PERFECT shape and exactly where I need to be! Fingers crossed!

Yep, I'm pretty sure they are the 10" version. I am just guessing though.

Not quite the way I had described the wheels... This is to much red, there inner part of the rims were supposed to be black like the spokes to make them easier to take care of... Not sure if they will make these right or if I will be stuck with them. Only the outer part of the rim up to and including the flat parts where the valve stem is were supposed to be red.

Keep your eyes peeled on this one to see how it turns out.

Talked to Eli the Wheel Dynamics owner and he agreed this is not what we had discussed and he will have it redone. Probably another week before they get here then...not a big deal at all...

FWIW - I like the look the way they are ...

it might not be what you envisioned -- but pretty good nonetheless.

Thanks Mike, I am not going to bitch to loud if I end up with them like this, but would prefer the black inside rim portion just for ease of care. It looks like they will just pull the tires and redo the inner part of the rim and then they will be perfect!

I agree that is a LOT of red. You certainly wouldn't run into another 928 with wheels like that though!

Eli is a great guy, member of the local PCars community, and should take care of you. Besides Wheel Dynamics, he has a local (to us) service/repair shop and regularly hosts events there for the local enthusiasts.

Yea, he mentioned the repair facility and that he has several 911's (I think a 997 TT IIRC) and seems like a VERY NICE GUY! When he got my message yesterday he emailed me back and asked if I wanted him to redo them as his painter didn't get the message on the paint correct and I told him I would prefer that.

So, while I am certain he is not happy about it, I think he is going to take care of me. I had asked him to have a wheel done and send me a pic to confirm that we were on the same page...sure would have saved a lot of time and energy if that had happened. Oh well. I am not in a rush so, I'd rather have it right than quick.
