Those of you who have been following along here know that I had not told the wife about this car...AT ALL! So, when Mr. Detail was over getting ready to get started we were in the garage talking about where the paint was single stage vs. a two stage after a repaint, etc and my wife comes out...

"Hey, THAT isn't the Burgundy car!"
"Yea, this is the RED car... Elliott has had it."
Her: "How long?"
Me: "Long time...since right after he moved in."
Her: "Oh..."

LOL! Done deal! Time for another 928! LOL! Mark...tell me about that '80 you just got in!

Nah, she met the car on Sat, but does not really know anything about it. What did Crystal ask and what did Beth say?

Thanks Michael...you have to answer just like it is old hat...no big deal, as though you have already talked about it in the past! LOL!

Some more updates on EURO85...

Mr. Detail has been out to the house again today and has about half the car done now. I was lamenting that the front and rear bumper covers just look terrible and while he will have the rest of the car looking GREAT I feared that I would have to repaint the front and rear. So he said, "well, lets see what we have." So he taped some stuff off and just gave it a quick once over. I nearly fell out of my chair! UNREAL! I think I can safely say, "a repaint, while in the future for this car, is NOT in the NEAR future!" AMAZING!

Jim Willman (my right hand man for 928OC Membership duties, since he lives just down the street) has been hard at work on the stereo in the car. What we found is that only TWO SPEAKERS were hooked up (left front, right rear), the radio antenna was NOT HOOKED UP AT ALL and there was enough insane wiring to cover most home theaters! Let me tell you this car has lost some weight! We took off a pound of oxidation, 6 lbs of stereo JUNK and probably a couple of lbs of grease and grime in the wheel wells!!

All I can say is I am SO HAPPY that I pulled the trigger and bought this car and Dr. Bob was there to really make it all happen and take such good care of me!!! Thanks again Bob! You are THE MAN!

Looks better and better after every treatment!

Most stereo installs end up being hack jobs, unfortunately. I suspect that some future owner will crap when he/she see the added wiring in my car, but... I worked hard to leave all the original wiring completely intact. Everything that attaches to the factory harness (really just a couple power connections, and to the factory speaker wiring) was done with connectors that mate with the original harnesses. Still a slew of added wiring.

FWIW, the seller of your car made it a point to share the "excellent stereo" that had been added to your car.

That totally cracks me up because the thing would hardly pick up a radio station and only had two speakers connected! Total POS! Just shows how one mans trash is anther mans treasure! You think he might like that "excellent" stereo back? More than happy to send it to him!

You're discovering the secret of single-stage Guards Red.. It can look like total crap and still be recoverable to a nice shine.

Even something as bad as this

Can turn into this

Hilton,

My car is about half single stage and half clear coat, BOTH are coming out VERY WELL! The cleared stuff was not nearly as bad as the single and none of it was even CLOSE to what you show there! WOW! Amazing how you can bring that back!

Here is the stereo that is now in EURO85. We still need to figure out why the passenger door speaker is not working and the cable for the iPod will be here next week, but other than that and the other half of the car detailing and new wheels I am very close to done with this little project and it will be time to just sit back and drive and enjoy!!!

I thought I could change the color of the buttons and display on this one, but I guess not. It does have HD radio which is pretty cool! I like that and a USB port on the front as well as an AUX input on the front and an input on the back for a GOOD iPod controller! YEA!

Nahh. The rest of his "collection" is "almost collectibles", like a raw early-70's LeMans that's an almost-GTO, stuff like that. Nothing good enough to deserve the pieces you took out of Euro '85. He shares a hanger at Chino airport (a small GA facility) for car storage with a small-plane owner there, and the wrestle regularly over space with each other and with the airport authorities. You know all the concersn that exist over storing cars at a GA facility.

Took passenger door panel off and reglued the vinyl at the top and figured out why the speaker was not working... not plugged in. Now it is working just fine! Actual 4 channel stereo now and the door panel trim looks better! YEA!

S4 stereo change out that should have been a piece of cake is proving to be a REAL PITA! The head unit is working but we are not getting the amp to turn on. Even talked to the Master Jim C about it and tried a few things and those didn't work either. The system was working with the CD2, though the CD2 was getting to the point where it didn't like to work at all, but when it would work, the amp and thus the speakers were coming on at least... Hmmmmm...

On to the Glaze step on the paint transformation of EURO85! About half done with that and then the final step...WAX! Needs to put it up on a lift to get under the nose of the car the way he really wants to, so we will probably finish up the nose either while it is at the shop getting exhaust or after it comes back from the shop and he takes it to a friends place with a lift to get it up in the air. Regardless, this thing is really looking good now!

Here is the Stereo in the car with all four speakers working and a set of lug nuts (I have round black locking lugs that I didn't paint) waiting for the new wheels!
