You missed it, there was one for sale near Palestine Texas on eBay.

Luckily we snapped it up after it didn't meet reserve.

Dangit! Nice car! That white is my favorite.

I haven't looked really close in a while, guess I should keep more of an eye out.

If you don't mind me prying, what are nice examples like that selling for today?

This one is identical to the Esprit I got to drive around from my dads shop. Pearl over powder blue. The owner was a great family friend who also owned a BB512, XKE and a few other nice cars.

I really want both of these, neither really cheap.

It did look really nice, but it's a non-running 10 foot car for sure. He was asking $2700 on eBay, and we picked it up for $2200 I believe. Under the decent paint and Bondo, it needs new rockers, new rear and new floorboards, the carbs needed rebuilding and the engine needed going through. All in all still a good deal though.

There was a nice unfinished project for sale 1968 for $1500 on Craigslist in Richardson or somewhere nearby about a week ago, but the listing expired. He's been trying to sell it for a while, but he hasn't reposted it yet.

GT6...nothing wrong w/ that. All the racing Spitfires use GT6 suspension components. Always liked them too! Kind of a poor man's E-type!

I kept trying to talk my wife into letting me swap in a nice little 200hp Duratec 2.0 instead of restoring the Triumph 2.0 that it came with, but she wants it all original. Just picked up another engine though, so maybe if I get some time I can find a way to stealth install a couple of nice injectors in the carb bodies.

I owned a '68 GT6 MKI for years. Tiny car. Easy to work on. Electricals that would make a 928 look good. Had the tightest turning radius of any car I've ever seen- at full lock the inside wheel would go almost perpendicular to the chassis and the car would fight itself around the turn. The transmission tunnel would burn your leg. Agricultural engine. Terrible throttle linkage. Cute little rear windows.

The rear suspension was a HORRIBLE swing-axle design with absolutely VICIOUS trailing-throttle oversteer!

And it almost killed me one day when it spun the knock-off splines on the left front wire wheel. After that I located a set of mags for it.

Other than that, it was fun. Here's the only remaining pic of it:

Fully restored: $10k-15k but those are EXTREMELY rare.

I would say $3k is too much for that. If interested, I would watch it and if its still there in a few weeks offer $2k. I say $2 only because I am ASSUMING the body is in good shape and the engine runs. But youve got paint, and interior to worry about.

Erik,

LOVE IT! Yea, I think the TR6 engine overwhelmed the poor Spitfire chassis... Even with a fixed roof and infinitely more torsional rigidity it was to much! My Spit was to slow to get in to much trouble (THANK GOD!) but I did manage to break the sway bar mount several times... I have even done that on my S4! I drive the HELL out of my cars! LOL!

Well, the first gen GT6's used a setup that forced the weight holding rear tire into a positive camber situation at the limit. The 2nd and 3rd gens were better, and from 1st to 3rd gen is an easy upgrade.

Talking

This is a super car. Super charge 500 HP that can run under 12sec in the quarter mile. It can keep you smiling for miles.

That is a big assumption, rust is a issue on these cars from what I understand.

Positive camber situation? You can say that again! More like, "balancing triangle" situation! The rear wheels wold tuck under so much that taking it off jackstands was a multi-step process, or else they would get trapped under the car! I always meant to rig some sort of suspension over-travel limiting strap thing to it.

But on the gas, it handled pretty good. I had Koni's on it.

Ditch the wire wheels. They are super weak and flexible, even for a 2000 lb car. After I went to a set of mags, it handled way, way better! The wire ones never held air anyway, and they're only held on by teeny tiny potmetal splines.
