I have the external plugs. What I need are the pins.

Hi Rob,
As always great info.
Was the list compiled from PET or an actual seal kit?
I have found differences between the Porsche kit and the VR supplied kits.
Best,
Roger

Hi Roger-

The GTS kit contents are based on reality, the '87-91 are straight outta the PET pdf. I put them together when I was surprised to find that the GTS seal kit does not include the valve stem seals. I'm pretty sure the GTS kit is accurate, I'll let you know what's 'extra' in the box when we're done building the engine

I got these pins from a good friend. I put them in, but the are not super tight. And when the cam cap goes on, there is about 1/32 of up and down movement - are they supposed to be tighter?

What did you do? Did you put some sealant on the small side to seal it up?

Any chance the ones you have were modified for early '87 heads? I recall early 87 heads have narrower journals, and the pins have to have their diameter reduced to fit.

Just measured a spare one - the pin diameter is 3.41mm on un-modified ones (guessing the .01 is cheap caliper error). They were a pretty close fit on my late '87. The length is 5cm almost exactly - from what I remember when I did this last, there was about 1mm movement up/down in the hole with the cam caps fitted (maybe less - didn't measure, just used fingers to feel how much movement there was)

No... just intall the way they are. The original style with the rubber aren't that tight either.

These are 89 heads and the diameter seems to be fine. Not "hammer it in" tight, but not wobbly loose. I was more concerned over the apparent up and down with the cam caps on. I suppose the idea is that the oil not come shooting out of the hole, but its okay to dribble out?
