Question Working on Fuel Dampers - Front Fuel Line #928.110.269.01 Crumbled!

If so, I think I just found my rich running problem at operating temperature. I pulled the vacuum line before startup this morning and gas just poored right out of the vacuum line like it was a hose.

I guess the front fuel diaphragm dampner has failed on me. I take it this can cause a rich running condition???

That's the likely culprit.

If it is not, he has far bigger problems.
I am surprised it even ran.

It ran because everything else is new and working on the car that's why, BUT the damned dampners. SOB looked like a geiser when I pulled the line.

Correct it really floods the engine at idle speed.....gets worse as the leak gets bigger.

i have the same problem. not as bad as yours, but it bleeds off pressure so its hard to start when she is warm.

All three of them will eventually do this. They are one of the first things we check when we get cars that are running poorly. Check the other two, in the rear of the engine.

The two dampners have the vacuum lines only for the eventual failure of the diaphram this is considered better than a big fuel leak on top of the engine ...... The early CIS cars pressure accumulator in front of the right rear wheel was vented to atmosphere and when it leaked it runs out on the floor...later version has a return line on the vent. Much better than leaving a trail of fuel on the road

Andy.................the vacuum lines that control both fuel dampners, the regulator are interconnected.

I'd look at all of them and determine which is dry.

Will do. The fuel pressure regulator is about a year old, but the dampners are still original. I am going to check the vacuum lines on all 3. If they are connected, chances are there is fuel in the rear dampner vacuum line also. On a side note it is getting harder to find the rear dampner. The big 3 so far are the only ones that have it if I google the part number.

You'll most likely see fuel at all three locations since they are interconnected. I had this happen on my 81.

I found my leaky fuel damper when I pulled the vacuum tube off my transmission... Was not expecting fuel to come out of it, so naturally my shirt got soaked with fuel. The damper itself was a royal bitch to get loose. Is there any trick to breaking the fittings on these? Even with flare nut wrenches, they were so tight the wrench couldn't take it. I ended up having to reinforce the wrench opening with a clamp. I'm going to have to replace the rear damper soon, and would love to learn a trick that could make removal easier... I'll assume a map torch is out...

If you counter hold with 2 open end wrenches, I believe it's a 19mm and 17mm, can't remember exactly hold the 2 wrenches, so they are about 2" apart in a V, squeeze them with one hand, and it will "break the seal". then they'll just come right off. I hope this helps.

I had to get a vice grips on my line wrench as well to get the things broke loose the first time.
