Default Todd's Garage in Green Bay - Twin Turbo 928 S4 in the works - more pics added 2-4-10

This project has been in the works for quite some time, has recently reached a point where I have some photos to share with the 928 community.

Engine - To Be Determined. Todd has not decided on which short-block he's going to use or the displacement.
The engine in the photos is for mock-up purposes only.

ECU - Autronic just like the red car

The exhaust manifolds are original 928S4, shortened with a flange added for the turbo.

I have added a link to this project on Todd's homepage.

http://www.erik27.com/todd/

Enjoy!!

EDIT - Added January 6, 2010 - additional images have been added:
Individual Coil Packs
Intake Manifold Plenum
The Jig Todd made to weld up the manifold
Additional underside photos showing the almost completed exhaust and more shots of the turbo's

EDIT - Added February 4, 2010 - additional images have been added under **NEW**

FYI - some of the image screens have multiple pages......

Way to drop a bomb Erik. Jesus.

After over 1M posts you'd think you knew better.

Well, I've been burning the midnight oil for a couple of days now working out the kinks of some new viewing software to "debut" this project.

Here's hoping it can handle the bandwidth.......

Well, the webpage looks great. Good process on the pictures as well. Makes me want to have those shiny intake pieces here to stare at over Christmas. Gotta get the cams in and timed though.

Excellent pics, thanks Hacker, and pass on our thanks to Todd for the sneak peek.

Looks like some mighty impressive welding in there ; cool way to make it all fit!

James, if you have a personal axe to grind about Tim Murphy's supercharger kit, perhaps you should make your own thread about it instead of randomly attempting to de-rail other threads that have nothing to do with Tim's kits? At the very least, go find a thread where your comments are on topic, rather than being boorish.

as for the turbo project....SON OF A...!! WOW!

Perhaps a spring time gethering for a debut. I think the chese curds officially left my system some time this past fall.

Did Todd just cut up a couple of old slotted wheels to make a wider pair? I wouldnt mind having a "stock" looking set like that.

It looks like that comes with the optional Green Bay feet warmer option.

Interesting project. Please keep the info flowing.

Yes - somewhere I have photos of the wheels without tires mounted. I'll try to find them, add'em to the site. I forgot about those images.

I should note these were taken before any heat shielding is installed.

WOW...Todd is a madman.....

The 1st thing that goes through my mind is HEAT......two ways

1: The floorboards above the turbo near the pedals are going to get STUPID HOT...like melt your shoes hot....but I'm sure he thought of this
2: That intercooler blocks the entire radiator....how in the world will any cool air get to it? Or is he moving the radiator?

Fans - two very large and very powerful fans.

The IC on the red car isn't much smaller, has proven to be a working setup on that car.
The motors on his fans are the size of your average alternator. He also added an extra blade (or two?) to increase the airflow.

Here is the thread on the IC in the red car:

I like the turbo set up, but agree with the cooling and foot well heat concerns. My race car just has headers going back and no sound or heat insulation (well it didn't have heat insulation initially anyway) and MAN did the floor boards get hot! I am talking melt the rubber on your shoes hot! That was just headers! We added heat wrap on the headers and that shiny aluminum looking sticky backed insulation and no more problems... That is probably what Todd is going to do too...or something like that.

Oh, is there any way to do that new fangled "ceramic" coating that is supposed to keep things cool on that stuff???? I saw it used on a motorcycle exhaust to keep the rider from burning his/her leg...

I was gonna suggest that cutting up some 15" Phone dials would be cool.. could use the 345/35/15 rear shoes from the Lamborghini Countach But then I remembered that the brakes wouldn't fit inside a 15" rim

I still gotta wonder.....granted you live in Green Bay.....but in a hotter climate or especially under high loads for a period of time....say racetrack or ORR conditions....I'm willing to bet it WILL overheat..... Since fans (even huge ones) can't come close to the airflow produced at speed..... assuming this TT motor will produce 2-3x the stock HP.....that is a tremendous amount of MORE heat....on an already modest cooling system

But it all comes down to what the car is designed to do.....for a powerful street car, with SHORT bursts of full power, it should work....but for a racecar.....with extended times at WOT.....it will get quite hot
