Shifter is first choice in my book
But the combination is awesome left hand on the wheel for the most precise steering you'll ever get out of any car with the right hand snapping through the gears using GTS torque brings out the very best it maked driving the car an exuberant experience, what are you waiting for?
Off course perfect alignment and good shcoks is part of that but I had done that already
OK may try and catch you guys next weekend. What's the place and location?

Thanks Colin.
I talked to Herman yesterday, he's trying to make it up to our breakfast next week. I'm going to drive his car if he does and if I like the shifter, I'll pull the trigger on it through Roger.

Chuck,
On your car the front coupling is causing the rattle you feel at the shifter.
Once you replace it or get rid of it it should go away.

Three Wheelin'
Is there a big difference in the "feel" of the short shifter?
Thanks.
Thanks.

total noob question.... so when replacing the rear U bushings, you take the allen head pin out, then un do that bolt that clamps it on i take it. not does it matter what position the splines go back on the shaft when you re-install the joint?

It DOES matter how the rear coupler body slips back on the shift splines- When you shift from 1st to 2nd, you're rotating the shifter (and the rear shift rod, coupler, and selector rod into the transmission) clockwise and moving the rods all rearward. That combination of movements 'finds' 2nd gear. If you mess up the relationship of the shift rod to the coupler, it won't necessarily select the proper gear any more.
Take a sharpie marker and make a line across the junction of the coupler body and the shift rod so you can get the orientation the exact same upon reassembly.
If no splines are visible (like mine, below), maybe just put a line on the shift rod that lines up with the upper or lower left corner of the coupler body:

This slip joint is how you adjust the shifter with the new shifter.
moving it for/aft will put a slight forward or rearward lean to the shifter.
Left right adjustment is for centering it so that you can select all gears.

The first thing to do is push out the big center pin that runs through the bushings- IIRC I used an 8mm socket on the pin, and a 17 mm socket on the coupler body on the other side, and squeezed it out in the vice. (Maybe have been a bit bigger than 17mm, use whatever is slightly bigger than the OD of the bushing so the socket is resting on the metal of the coupler body
Once the pin is out, the factory bushings have a big shoulder on the inner rim, so they need to be pushed in from the outside- they pretty much push in with finger pressure. Same with installing the new bushings, then just do the same vice trick to push the center pin back in.

Oh my god, how did I miss this thread. I will have to get on this bandwagon.
I'm thinking after having installed my 350mm steering wheel, this will complete the transformation of the 928 from school bus sized steering wheel and inputs, and 18 wheeler shifter, to snicky snick shifting, and sports car steering feel and inputs.
Excellent.

I haven't run the GTS through the gears yet in anger but Carl's shifter ball cup + 928intl short shifter + brass bushings feels pretty good on the garage floor....
