I'm thoroughly confused, but very interested!!

Are there any photos of this short shifter installed?

EDIT - my brain just kicked in, it all makes sense now.

It makes a HUGE differenc.
I HATE the 928 shifter, especially when skip-shifting from 5th to 3rd while out on the track; its vagueness does not inspire confidence whatsoever.

If this shifter is that good, then I am in with the bronze bushings. That stock shifter is my only real gripe with 928's, especially on my racecar.

When you need to replace your rear coupler bushings and perhaps your front ball cup you can do this at the same time.

Unless shifting less than any Roger box is high on your list of priorties.

Generally I don't mind the long throw. I have driven Kyle's with the short shift, and it is a nice feel too.

Herman,

Maybe if you could post up some pictures of the amount of shifter throw, or going through the gears.

To anyone curious about this. I can tell you that if you have felt stock, and then have felt the other short shifters availible. This is another 3 steps above this at least.
But as I have stated before it gives a really gated feeling. So be forwarned, it is no longer like rowing a boat or shifting a truck.

Default Driving experience with the new shifter...

Today I had time to drive it some more and I like it a lot. It's growing on me real fast. Shifting is now just a snap of the wrist and very tight (virtual impossible to mis a gear) and compliments how the car handles in general after all is said and done I may still prefer the nylon bushings in the rear coupler which gives it just the right amount of flex, off course the brass ones will last longer but changing out the nylon ones every 2-3 years is not a major event.

Compared to the old style short shifter (30 min install) I estimate that with out the center console removal you should estimate 2-3 hours for installation (this is inclusive of strapping down the front guide tube to the TT after removing from the front baal cup and replacing the bushing in the rear coupler (I think this is a must on all installations)

Given a choice I would go with the newer style shifter as it eliminates the front ball cup pop off situation and I don't think you can a more direct feel in shifting gears on your 928 than with this shifter.

This for sure makes into a real "He mens car" with even less distance to shift gears than a "Roger box" > go figure no more slush boxes!!!

I am glad that you are enjoying the new shifter Herman! And I agree, if you miss shift with this shifter you are not paying any attention.

I have not strapped down the front guide tube on the ones that I have popped off and have not recieved any rattling or other noises from it just sitting in there on its own. But using zap straps to hold it down would not be too bad of an idea.

Ok I'm curious. I've got DR's kit on my car right now and while I like the shorter throw, the effort involved is considerable. What I'd really like is a short throw with the stock length shift lever for the greater leverage. From Herman's pics it looks like the length on this one is about the same as the one I have now. Is it possible to get one with a longer lever?

Mark,

the short answer to your question is no. It is not. Of course you could find a piece of the right aluminum and weld a chunk on the top. This could be done on both DRs and mine.
However when properly shifting the car this one tractically pulls the shifter into gear.

Factory system is only anchored relative to the torque tube, or things rigidly attached to it. This one if I understand it anchors to the chassis in front and the transmission in the rear. Could this be a serious problem in a crash?

He's back?
Anyway....long overdue product, though the mounting of the brace makes me cringe.
And the fact that the $95 dollar rear couple and the $whatever it was shortshifter and bushings on mine only have a couple thousand miles on them..
