The rear coupler does not need to be replaced, just the bushings in it. They are dirt cheap.
Some people might not like how the braces mounts to the car, most probably because of the 2 holes which will need to be drilled. These holes will NEVER been seen or known about by anyone other than yourself though. And they will not effect anything else should you wish to revert to factory. You dont even need to seal them as the foam seal is right below them and it takes care of that.

Having the shifter anchor to the chassis at the front and tranny at the rear is no problem. It doesnt even add any real vibration to the shifter either, if anything I would say it has less than factory.
As to the crash issue. It would take an extremely hard rear ender to make this cause any damage and you would have to have your hand on the shifter for it to affect you.
Last I checked everyones gut reaction the split second before a collision is to put both hands on the wheel. So this is as well not a problem.

Thanks for the info Colin, I appreciate it. So what would it take to get a special lever made to the stock length? It should still have a shorter more precise throw than stock, if a bit longer due to the arm. Ed?

Ed, I think that it would be best for you to do this on your own.
Otherwise it would require almost another $50 in shipping and then around 30min - hour of time modifying the lever. As well this one will sit at the same height as the other short shifters out there.

so you replace the coupler bushings, and drill two holes and mount. i take it the install is not to hard then. i might just be dumb and not understanding this, so does the front ball coupler to the shifter not get used anymore?

That is correct, the entire front shift rod is no longer used. So the ball cup and secondary bushing is completely removed from the picture.
Install is not hard, unless you are Alex (chebrauter SP??) and have cables attached to the center console via rivets.
But you should remove the center console to make the drilling of the holes easy and to ensure that you do not damage the center console at all. It also makes it easier to locate where to drill the two holes.

IMO not very. But at the same time I am doing a standalone EFI system in a car and built the engine harness from scratch in 1.5 days......

Just put a short throw shifter in my car. Thanks Roger. We put it in and took a look at it and called it stubby! Works great! Very happy w/ the results.

We put the rear (brass) coupler bushings in the GTS a few weeks ago and it really tightened up the side to side movement of the linkage. Definately more precise. I'm still on the fence wether to go this way or to just replace the front ball cup and call it done.
Looks like from your latest video that there is a little more separation in the gears than the original one on youtube from a while back. The first video looked like gear separation was a little too close for me, but one above looks pretty damn good!
I still need to drive Herman's to get a feel for it.

Chuck you won't regret doing this I just added a new s-rack and Delrin and the car has never ever handed this good before the combination of these items make the car "DYNOMITE" !!!! Go for it
