As Shawn pointed out a while back, the 991 is the modern 928. To make a 2 door Panamera or anything like that would be competing against their own car.
A 2 door Cayenne, OTOH, would go up against the BMW & M/B equivalents. I would have thought that niche was filled by the Macan, but I'm not in automotive marketing.

Im reminded of when Porsche said that an entry level sports car under the Boxster would muddle the brand. Im glad they are watching for that kind of thing...
