Porken
I am not sure about the downpipes after the stock (tank) exhaust manifolds....I will go up there tomorrow to take a look and get some pics! I do think it wouldn't be hard to get 200whp @ 5750rpm...since we only need 182ftlbs to do that & right now we are at 187ftlbs at 5250....a touch more flow should get there...

yes i know torque is what really moves the car, and im quite happy with the torque this think makes. but as for a tigh slow track?? haha no we are runing Thunderhill FULL COURSE! that is not a slow track, its my home track i could say, ive done the last lemons there in the v8volvo which had very simular power. the torque will be loved coming out of 15 but on the straight i need that hp to whiz past them all.

i agree, kinda. in the past one of the slow cars could win with a few lap lead. but lemons has began to evolve, cars are getting faster, more effiecent if you will, drivers are getting smarter. I dont believe just having a moderately fast car with great drivers can allow you to win ( unless the faster opposistion has bad luck which hapens alot).

Remember ive won the 24hrs of lemons at buttonwillow, ( well not just me, our team) and it was a very close race, closer than usual but IMO to win you have to stay in the top 5 by the end of saturday, then give it all you got on sunday staying clean and fast. and especially on a large 3 mile track like Thill, its going to be pretty hard to make up just 5 laps in 6 hours when the opposition is only a few seconds slower a lap, then you consider fuel range and yellow flags and blackflags, its all in the air but a fast car is what you really need unless you have a ton of luck. its all becoause there are now professional race shops building very good cars coming with proffessional drivers,( like us hehehe) its becoming harder to win each time. but im not too worried

Clint summed up the race pretty well.....assuming the car doesn't break or get taken out we should have a comptetive car......if the car can run reliably to the end....we should be placed pretty high....we probably won't have the fastest single lap for the weekend, since thats a car that blows up on Saturday....but only a handful of seconds slower....

I am predicting that our machine can run 2:15's possibly into low 2:10's with one of the Marks behind the wheel.....since we are shooting for 2600lbs wet...

We had 4/5 very good drivers and our car was probably top 10 in overall speed. We came in 26/120+. Two stupid penalties and slow fueling were what made the difference for us. If you guys seriously want to win, I think you should spend some money on fancy gas cans. You lose A LOT of time fueling. Especially with our V8 cars versus the less thirsty 4 cylinder stuff out there. The Saturn pitted next to us could go full tilt for over 3 hours. Our Crown Vic was on fumes in under 2 hours every time.

OH, I see! I pictured LeMons as a 1/4 mile dirt track event - didn't realize it was that "legit"! I pictured this as a race of short bursts of acceleration between tight corners. Guess not...

Then my comments about torque vs power are indeed not applicable. I was certainly opening the door to "The Debate" but I'm glad I didn't restart it.

The cast iron manifolds are heavy, but they have a nice internal shape. With a little help, I reckon they flow about as well as the S3 headers, maybe better. I was amazed by the difference with just the 3mm larger ID of the 32V downpipes, and the grinding.

we do have a bunch of fast flow 5 gallon cans and a 10 gallon nascar style one, holding 85lbs over your shoulder isnt easy in a hot suit. the problem is getting the filler neck to accept that much fuel and a vent to release the gas fast enough. im thinking we should modify the fuel sender hole to become the filler and the original filler as a vent or maybe a seconday inlet. rules dont say only one person can fill the tank, just everyone involved has to be in fire suits with helmets. we could dump 20gallons in maybe 45 seconds then

also the v8volvo i drove which won buttonwillow was good for only just under 2 hrs on its 15 gallon tank. the 928s 23 or whatever gallons should be plenty

Sound realy good.... nice and free flowing. Are there any noise level restrictions for this event?

yes its 110db i believe, or if your car just sounds way too annoying, or to healthy it will be voted to be crushed. the car is actually pretty loud, there is alot of exhuast gas coming out of the the tip, good flow!

I think it varies by the track....but is pretty high...plus it would be easy to add on mufflers to get the sound where we need it...

still moving along.....the rest of the parts arrived today.....Tires should be here Friday.... still removing sound deadening and unnecessary computers-wiring.....I really want to keep the weight as low as possible & hope to be around 2700lbs + driver.... remember its an automatic so thats an extra 50lbs.....
