The light source depends on whether you have the older or newer style switch. Both use strip type lighting, but the older style needs two separate strips for each end, making it a lot more complex to install. The later style switches - from 90 on, I believe - are designed differently and allow one single strip to be inserted.
In other words: you will have four strips for the new style switches, and 8 for the older style.

Mark,
It is a strip and can be colored.
I have tried orange to match the dash lights. Used an orange highlighter.

Roger (or Shocki),
I should have asked you this when I was speaking with you today, but I thought I would bump this thread anyway...
What is the status of these switches? Do you have them in stock?
Do you have them available for an 86 (i.e. "older-style" switches) with sunroof?
Is it possible to post the install procedure?

I have a number of sets both old and new style in stock, however ------
While the concept is very good the installation is very difficult.
The main issue is the hinge points on the covers. They break very easily and as this is the most expensive part in the kit replacement soon becomes uneconomical.
I have given FOC sets to a number of customers to trial the installation process with very limited success.
I need to give more feedback to the manufacturer to see if we can improve the design and bring it to market.
Tony and Mark if you would like a FOC set of the older style to do a trial installation just ask.

Converting the later style switches is not that easy, the hinges of the switch covers break off easily. I wrote to the inventor and asked if a reinforced version will be available.
I converted the center console switches (later style) in my GTS. Conversion was not to difficult(for me) and they look really good. But I have to admitt that my mechnical skills are a little above a regular DIY person.
STBY for more information...

Each switch cover is special and allows the illumination from the strip to shine through.
You can color the strip to give you different colors.
However unless we get a better design to the covers this will not be going very far.

I recently did this upgrade as well. I first tried using 3m amber tape over the el light strip to get the desired effect it took three layers which made it impossible to fit in the switch. I ended up with using Alan's suggestion of orange Monokote which can be picked up at a local hobby store. Here is a picture of the 3m on the left and the monokote.
928RUS Kit
The OEM switch cover is easy to remove. Just don't loose the metal tabs they easily pop out.
EL-light fitting to switch cover
Wiring from switches to cigarette lighter
New switch covers installed.
The illuminated switch covers are close to factory dash. This is just a cheap camera so there is a bit of motion blur in the pic.
As mentioned in an earlier post the newer covers are not as flexible as the oem and can break easily. The EL-lighting will need additional trimming to allow the switches to move freely when they are being pressed. I also punched two holes where the oem cover contacts the metal tab on the switch, this seems to work really well. I am using the ground from the cigarette lighter and the positive from the clock illumination.
