Then take a gratuitous photo and post as you reveal the failure. . G

What happens if something breaks while "on assignment"? Suppose the water pump starts leaking.
The recipient will be responsible for maintaining the car just as they would their own.

I'd be in withdrawl too! That is one nice car. He was still looking sweet last weekend!

Good luck in Boston!

Is it possible to register a car that you do not own and have in your name ?

Yes, and no. Most states will allow anyone to pay the registration fees for a car that meets all the state req. The registration will be issued in the name of the person paying the fees, but it will not transfer ownership(of course).

As I understand what Mark explained is the car is basically given in good faith to the person who basically owns the car for the timeframe they have it, hence they can register the car in their name. I had the same question.

Most people buy a car, become the registered owner, but not the legal or something owner, which is usually the bank. Maybe like a lease?

Isn't the essence of this plan accepting that things could go wrong, and deciding to go forward anyway?

What would be the point if the car didn't at least occasionally go to someone in difficult circumstances?

I think it probably has to do with a liability issue. By "gifting/giving" the car to the recipient they therefore technically own the car and its liability. Just a guess imo.

Mark should probably create a lien on the car in order to establish a value for insurance purposes..worst case and as the lien holder, he and the group would get payment of a claim if LL ever gets into a problem while being insured by the particular possessor at the time...an Insurance Co will be more likely to pay off the lien. It would have to be a reasonable amount...let's say 4k.. This will also require the driver to carry full coverage in order to protect Mark, et al for the basic cost of the car. A great idea all the way around to keep LL in the mix with the 928 community.. I am also looking at another 928 right now that needs to be rescued...can't wait to see it....

I am not really sure how this works but it sounds like you plan to sell the car to people and have them care for it properly, then sell it on to someone else?

I would suggest the person who gets the car actually pay a mileage charge to have it maintained professionally and to fund tires and the like. If it's not professionally maintained people might just drive it into the ground at the lowest possible cost to themselves.

This reminds me.... Mark, you may want to add a no-disassembly clause to the Leon contract.

Kind of like a pre-nup. I don't know who you would be referring to though.
