Mark, et al,
Great solution to a difficult problem for Lisa Marie, and for all who contributed to the restoration of Leon - 928 In'tl and Mark being the primary contributors. We all look forward to hearing who will be the first "caretaker" for Leon.

Wow...I have NEVER heard of a car group doing something like this! Really says something about this community.
Will Leon only be available to west coast people??? Am I also to assume this is primarily for people who have a DD 928 as there only means of transportation?
Great idea!

Wow, what an incredible act of generosity!
I do have one question to clarify for the benefit of potential grantees... is the grant to be one year "max" or one year "exactly" -- e.g. if someone needed the car for just 5 months, could they return it for the next in line or would they be expected to keep/maintain/upgrade for the full year? As I type this the answer seems obvious but it couldn't hurt to have it spelled out for all.

1. This really is the work of some behind the scenes Rennlisters who have asked me to be the front man.
2. The car will be available for "Up to" 1 year. I will submit written request to the people behind the scenes.

"Leeroy Lives"
This car, "Leon" is the result of the good philanthropic efforts of 928 International and Rennlisters to help a fellow 928 owner, Lisa Marie (Socalgirl) when her own car (Leeroy) caught fire and was destroyed. "Leon" is the result of that effort and Lisa Marie was the appreciative beneficiary.
Circumstances have unfortunately required Lisa Marie to put Leon up for sale/adoption. In the interest of continuing the goodwill she received, Leon has been sold "at a deeply discounted price" to a group of 928 Rennlist enthusiasts. The only stipulation for the transfer of Leon is that he is to be a not-for-sale (ever) car that will be granted to a deserving and active member of the 928 community for a period of one year. During that time the present caretaker shall register, insure, maintain and enhance Leon until such time they have repaired, replaced their own car. At any time during the one year period the present caretaker, along with the discretion of 928 International, can bequeath Leon to its next deserving caretaker.
The sole prupose of the "Leeroy Lives" project is to foster and enhance the goodwill of the 928 community by providing the opportunity to continue the driving enjoyment of a 928 during the time their own car is out of commision or is replaced.

Two years ago I bought my first 928, Leeroy. He was beautiful. Everyday was a pleasure driving him, listening to the engine roar, hearing his music...he took great care of me. An engine fire took leeroys life. I turned to rennlist to share my sadness & profess my love.
Within days members were offering advice, suggestions, help, parts...And in two weeks, Leon was built. He even strutted around in leeroys original steering wheel & gear shift.
6 months later the LEEROY LEON fund was created. Mark at 928 international is the host. Leeroy Leon will go to members in need. Members who need a car while theirs is being fixed, etc. He will go bring joy in times of need. Reassurance in times of stress, beauty, style, and security.
Passed from one to another, just as he was intended.
A parts fund has also been started. I bought a used lighter unit for Leeroy. It was from a fellow member. It has been donated to Mark to start a parts fund. Members can donate time, parts, extra items, etc to help others who may need them.
Nothing is ever expected in return. Just the joy of giving.
Leeroy Leon Fund is something we are all proud to be apart of.
Thank you
Its a story my grandkids will hear=PRICELESS

ALSO, KUDOS FOR TURNING IT INTO REALITY
I can think of no better purpose for this car then what has been described above. The car was restored thanks to the generosity of other community members, and they shall become the beneficiaries of it in the end.
The circle is complete
I wish for a very long, very happy life for "Leon" And I hope he finds his way into countless caretakers homes.
WELL DONE!

Excellent solution. Hope to see the car travel thru here someday in the future, so that I can add something to it as well (oil change; tweaking; whatever).

The circle of life. All I can suggest is that those that get the car, return it in better condition than it was given. I know that's how I did it, and it should be mantra for those blessed with the car.
Well done all around.

Great idea! Just so good to be part of a community of people who wish for and then execute ways to increase the super goodwill of the 928. Long live Leon!
Many proffs to Socalgirl and Mark A and others.
I went to Sharktoberfest and was able to get an upclose look at Leon. He looks pretty good and Mark took me the local Enterprise Rent-aCar in Leon to pick up my rental. Leon runs great! I only wish he was one 928 Shark that could truly swim. I think he'd like the weather here in Hawaii.

Just wanted to add that Leroy is looking really nice. Last I had seen him was when the engine swap was being performed and he was quite dirty and looking pretty rough. At Sharktoberfest, he sat there in all his glory, I even had to ask if that was him! He looks great and this is an amazing thing this 928 community is doing and one of the reasons why I chose to be a part of it.
