Look for Cosmo Kramer or Imoo to give you advice - they are from your neck of the woods, and post here regulalry. Pics are a must. Good luck.

Figure on $10,000 or so just to rebuild the engine.....then all the WYAIT like motor mounts , wiring harness , hoses , fuel lines etc etc.... ??? why did it get hot ? how hot did it get ? did the t belt break from a siezed water pump ? if so it needs valves. And before going much further check crank end play if excessive thrust bearing wear then the block is toast ! The most cost effective way to have a running car would be a used engine then HOPE that the transmission is OK and the A/c Works.

Used engines for that car run 1500-3000 depending on year/condition...

Now I know why I haven't bought that '89 I seem to not be able to live without.
Jim, my wife said "thank you"!

Ruh-roh.

Welcome. You are about $12,000 away from having a nice $9000 car. We can do it cheaper down here in TX, but you gotta get it here and then come pick it up.....

This is an engine pull job, so like Bailey has said, there's a lot of ancilary work that's going to happen for a 'restore' type job. Ship it on down, we'll get started!

I fired you off an email, but I am also able to do this project for you and it would save you money over having a shop do it providing you have the tools and space to do it.

Sounds like you just bought yourself a 928 mechanics trainer course. No better way to learn than to dive in yourself. Not that hard really - just need to get over the psychological barrier.

Imo000 (Imre) is not too far from you and might be able to help you out. 69gaugeman (Rod) is also not too far and might be able to get you started. Both of these guys have pulled motors and know what they're doing.

Furtmair in Kitchener is supposedly good, I haven't personally used him but he has had some good reviews from others that I have read. I have visited his shop and it is nice and clean and looks professionally run.

http://www.furtmair.com/

Sounds like you can get this done without pulling the motor if it is drivable now.

PICS!!

That was important info to share, as this now doesn't sound to be as bad as initially read. Those $10k+ repair estimates have now dropped significantly!

Very true... but more importantly, 'Hot women dig Porsches'... it's convincing them the same superiority of the cars also exists in the owners... that's where the fun begins!

Welcome Marc!

Marc,

I think I've posted a reply to your tread on the 944 baord. PM me your number and we'll set something up. I work in Brampton and live in Cambridge. Drive through Milton twice a day.

I re did mine for a heluva lot less than that. Didn't touch the short block tho. Mine overheated due to a combination end tank failure and years of incorrect coolant.

Pull the motor if you're going to pull the heads. It makes everyrhing easier.
