Here are a few more pics of the destruction

What is cool about this race, (besides the ending obviously) was that the championship points leader in the griggs racing , 700hp mustang, lost his MidValley ($$$) transmission in race 1, and had to borrow/steal his dad's griggs racing older mustang with 425hp 338ci engine. He bought brand new A6 hoosiers and wanted the Holbert machine and a few others of us out there. That thing was on rails, it was amazing. (and he can drive too obvously) I was able to power away from him but he was sticking like glue for most of the race, until both of our tires went off just past the half way point. Darrell usually runs his beefy mustang at a 1:40 at Sears point. we were in the 1:48/49 range.

Hey Mark - Sorry to read of your misfortune. Glad you are okay, as many have said that is the real concern. Props for racing an old racer......... they were made to be raced not looked at! Hats off to you Mark, hang in there, lots of good parts for your next car.

If I may comment on one item - racing a borrowed race car. I urge you to really think through that descision....... if you cannot pay for the borrowed car free and clear you really have no business being in the drivers seat. Race cars break, race cars get damaged, even borrowed ones. Then you have a whole new world of responsibility, obligations, and problems to deal with. Think about it man.

Good luck to you, sounds like you have a lot of listers ready to help as they can.

MK
I also would get a new seat......even if that one is still in date, it has to be compromised after a hit like that

+1

After a crash, harness, seat and helmet are tossed.

Good points. Might be different If things were not as they are now. Plus, I havent felt very comfortable about it since it was offered.

I think its time to wind down, lick the wounds and get ready for next season.

Thanks for the thoughts! Yes, the most important part is a couple of bruised or cracked ribs are much better than what could have happened.

250 race days, and 2 totaled cars, is probably pretty normal percentages. Though, I will take credit for the first one, 8 years ago and 130 racedays ago, the second one, was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. I think the Honda driver should take the credit there. Just think it could have been the $200k NSX, Mustang, camaro, vipers, and the cup car. anyone in my same position on the track at that time would have totaled their car and hit that Knot-head. Just a real bummer!

And thanks for bringing up that painful statistic. Nice!

I think Anderson has the record for two major hits in one race!

so, two guys that have record number of races with the 928 have taken hits. Point is?

A team manager I know very well once told me about about a pro-racing driver:"He has crashed only two cars in around hundred races. That's really good."

So I think you are a safe driver.

Wasn't there a web page at some point that documented the whole transformation of the Holbert car from snow white to the red devil it became?

From one racer to another, think of it this way: The car did it's job. It gave you a lot of enjoyment and at the end of the day it saved your life.

Rebuild it however it needs to be done, and it wont be the same car, but it'll still have the same heart.

Perhaps in the same way that a new dog would remind you of the old one that had been run over

Thanks for that. So true!
I'm trying to keep that spirit alive.
Thanks again!
