Jim, I'llbe somewhere near you on the way I think. Plan is to leave <5am, take 40 to Albuquerque then south to Alamogordo. Beats the heat and the traffic with luck. I was just thinking that I'm tanned rested and ready enough to go right now. Need to hang out here for some critical deliveries that K is expecting. Otherwise the temptation would be to go over to Laughlin, for instance, get rested up there somehow, and continue on in the morining with the 3-4 hour jumpstart. Baby bro' reports that he stays there for $13/night and plays golf in the heat. $15 for all the golf you can stand, including the cart. I'm not quite ready for 125º golf, but the low-priced stay isn't too offensive. Look, I just saved $15!

Jim,
What route are you taking across ? I think Dr Bob is coming across on RT 15 to RT 40 east to Albuqueque then south down to Alamogorda to meet up with Darien. Im still trying to get a timeline when he will roll thru Flagstaff,AZ on 40.

We'll be coming from the north via SLC. Tomorrow we'll follow bigs' route via Shiprock, Farmington and US 550 to Albuque, then either west towards Clovis, then meet up in Post mid-day Thus, or maybe we'll head south from Albu to Alamogordo and meet up with Bill & Darien there Wed eve. We'll figure that out this evening.

Wow, an open car-carrier just went by going the other way (I-84 westbound) with a red '67 or 68 911 or 912 Targa with a soft back window. I haven't seen one of those for a long time.

Safe travels everyone!

Jim,
Sounds like a plan. You two be safe. Watch out for sheep, tourist`s in "BruiseAmerica" rental RV`s and cattle coming across the reservations. Will talk to you either tonight or sometime tommorow from the road. Kevin

Anyone that plans on heading South to Alamogordo from from I-40 can bypass the Albuquerque at mile marker 126 just West of Albuquerque and take route/hwy 6 which will take you to I-25.

Just keeps you from driving through the middle of the city and it's quicker.

Little trip calculator says it will be about 7 hours from here to Flagstaff. That will have me there around noon local time. Good braekpoiunt to meet up, grab a light lunch, and head on to ABQ. The Flagstaff to Albuquerque dash is about 4 hours, so it will be 5-6PM local time when we go through or around ABQ towards Alamogordo. 3.5hrs from Albuquerque to Alamogordo. Arrival will be 10PM range depending on how we do meal and fuel breaks along the way. If there are any holdups or other significant adjustments I'll post here and text the travelling group.

My cell number is eight one eight four 7 2 eight eight 6 eight. I plan to have the little FRS radio along for local chat, on channel 9 with tone 28 enabled if it gets too squawky.

Bob, I-10 sure looks shorter and quicker...you could easily shave 3-4 hrs.

Although, I-40 will be cooler and more scenery.

I kind of intened this to be more of a scenic tour than a drive. I've done the mad dash, fastest way non-stop coast-to-coast memorial trophy dash several times, and it's not near as relaxing and enjoyable as a tour. I haven't travelled the I-40 route before east of Needles so there's new ground to traverse. If time gets away I may look harder at that I-10 route. It's a rathee boring ride compared to the mountain route, and it's hotter for sure going south. I'd have to leave here at dinner time tonight to avoid just some of the desert heat across AZ and southern NM. I'm just not in that big of a hurry, at least not yet. Car cruises really comfortably at 75ish, even up and down the hills we might find on 40 and 25.

Back to work!

In that case, you'll definitely enjoy I-40 versus the southern desert route

I've been purposefully ignoring the weather forecast since it never rains where I drive my car anyway. Below-normal temps prediicted, with rain lilely through the weekend. I slathered on layer of Rain-X, got the umbrella in the pass seat ready, and a rain jacket JIC. Since I'm prepared, no woriies about it actually raining on me. Others may want to worry anyway.

Drive safe my friends. Arrive in one piece even if it means slowing a bit.

I made it from Price, Utah to Texas today. Muleshoe, TX to be exact. It's about 30 miles East of Clovis, NM. I have about 540 more miles to go until I get to Austin. I'll be visiting and staying with Dennis Wilson tomorrow. Dennis used to own a very nice stroker '88 auto 928. He put in a lot of work on the body and interior. I did some engine work on it before he moved to Austin.

I hope you had a good drive today. We stopped in at Motorsport in SLC to meet Dave Lomas and get a tour, wow!!

US6 to Price wasn't too bad, traffic was light. But there was a Carbon County sheriff in Price who perked right up as we motored by and followed us for miles, for some reason he seemed particularly interested in white GT's... Is there anything you might have forgotten to mention?

We had a great dinner at Buck's in Moab, off to Alamogordo in the AM.
