My plan right now is to leave the Los Angeles area pre-dawn (<5AM) on Wednesday morning to beat the traffic and the desert heat a bit. Route is 210 east to 15 north to 40 east to Albuquerque, then south to Alamogordo to meet Darien. We'll leave Alamogordo Thursday morning, and join the Albuquerque caravan as Darien has defined previously. I'm thinking that Ill be at Albuquerque around 4-5 PM, and it's three hours or so down to Alamogordo from there.

Anybody else coming across that way on 40 to Albuquerque?

Packing some cleaning supplies, a couple spare bits for others, a few basic tools. Maybe some show-and-tell props. I'll have a quart of oil and some water JIC for the car but expect no issues. A cooler of diet pepsi, a box of Depends for me JIC but expect no issues. Full tank of gas, sunglasses, and it's night time...

This will be a 'shorts and golf shirts' expedition unless someone says otherwise. Might bring long pants for formal night, but no ties.

I'll have the FRS radio dialed to ch9, tone 28. My cell will be on, eight 1 eight four seven 2 eight eight 6 eight.

Dr Bob
I will be picking up RT40 east in Flagstaff,AZ. Weds. Based on your timeline you should be passing thru there around 12noon AZ time. Correct me if Im wrong. I can meet you in Flagstaff and run on to Alomogorda with you. I havn`t made any night stay plans for Weds, but Im sure there`s motels in Alomogorda. I live two hrs north of Rt40 & Flagstaff, so I can adjust my leaving time to meet up. Let me know. Kevin

There is a Motel 6 (cheap) in Almogorda right next to a Golden Corral Buffet....cheap and quick ! If you are careful and selective it is possible to have a reasonably good meal in place of fast food without killing an hour

Bob,

Sounds great...Thursday EARLY, we'll head East on hwy 82 over close to Lubbock and meet others. I think "Post, Tx" is where we'll meet and head down to I-20 and then over the Arlington

For those of you that are planning this route and haven't posted your cell number and I don't already have it, shoot me a PM with it and let me know if you don't have mine

Dr. Bob, There used to be a great burger place in Alamogordo: the Hi-De-Ho. 50's era drive in with car hops. Tiger burger has green chilis on it. I used to love to stop there on my way up from El Paso. Prolly still there.

Kevin, Sounds great! Where are you planning to stay Wed night, do you know yet?

We had an uneventful trip to Boise, got in around 9pm and had a great dinner at the Willowcreek Grill on Vista Ave-- across the highway from the airport (and just down the road from the Holiday Inn Express). Anyone traveling through these parts should put that restaurant on their list.

The car ran great today, the only problem so far is that the A/C evap freezes if the outside temp gets cooler than 85 or so-- sounds like the freeze-switch is inop. But looking at the weather reports that is not going to be much of an issue...

We're headed for Moab tomorrow and dinner at Buck's Grill (thanks, biggs!), and maybe a stop in SLC to visit Motorsports if they are up for a drop-in.

Cheers, Jim & Sue

Whoever plans on stopping by Alamogordo, I can help with finding a Motel. Also, if anyone gets in early enough Wed, I can give a tour of the Raptor

Louie's about a day ahead, heading for Austin for a couple of days and then up to Dallas Friday, we'll meet up at the dyno place. We talked to him on the phone yesterday evening, he was in Price UT and said that his car was running fine (typical Louie understatement).

Cheers, Jim

Darien,
When I was going back to Texas that way, I was driving and basically just driving through Carizozo in a hurry towards home! Going back towards El Paso, I was just catching a plane back. Not in as big a hurry usually. (Although there was that time that......)
