Ok, I wanted to wait another week or two, but I'm too anxious![jumper](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/jumper.gif)
I've spoke to a few West Cost folks that I hope I can meet either up around Albuquerque or down by Las Cruces or El Paso.
Heinrich has shown interest in flying out and driving over with me... and I believe someone mentioned having a Barbeque![cherrsagai](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/drink.gif)
There are a few different ways to head east from my location, either over the mountains or all highway.
My plan was to arrive in the DFW area on Thursday 30 Jul, but can leave a day earlier.
This will be the first event in a few years for me to attend and since it's a bi-annual event, I'll have to drive Rocket![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)
Anyone want to join in??

I'm coming. But I'm flying in and riding with someone. Darien, looking at flights they are VERY expensive to El Paso ... perhaps I should fly to SFO and ride with one of my friends to you, and hop the 928 there? I'm dibsing your room to share either way

I'm a possible west-coast candidate for that meet-up. I plan to arrive a day or two early in FW, and will stay with my in-laws there. I'll need part of that day for recovering from the travel damage to the car before it goes on public display. For me that's a Tuesday/Wednesday depart from Los Angeles. I'm looking forward to taking the mountain route across northern Arizona and New Mexico since it's more scenic and generally cooler, meeting up with others along the way. I need to do a little more route research to decide whether it makes sense to continue that way, or turn south through ABQ and ELP for the ride across 10/20 to Fort Worth. The freeway ride through west Texas is a lot faster, but is a whole lot of boring as far as scenery. It does open the option of doing a barbeque tour along the way though. Otherwise its a cruise control at 80 ride, listening to Wagner and the tailpipe music in sweet harmony. Not a bad option if we are in a hurry I guess.

Southwest flys into ELP and ABQ, also Midland/Odessa International on the way if we take the more northern route.

Darien:
I was planning on heading out your way. I was talking with the Denver crowd (Stan), but they are heading East on 70 before heading South on 35. If they came down 25 instead, we could all meet up.
Google shows 10/20 all the way, which goes through Las Cruces, but as dr. Bob said, that is BORING. Fast, but boring. The shortest route is 40, right through Alb and then 287 from Amarillo. Maybe not much more interesting. About 1700 miles for me. Anything more interesting would probably take 2 days. In fact, I've never covered 1700 miles in a day before.
I was planning on arriving Thursday as well, but I have time to move that even earlier.

Jim/Bill,
If you guys jumped on I-25 at Albuquerque then over on Hwy 380 at San Antonio, NM that's nice mountainous ride and will go through Roswell.
You could also take Hwy 54 off Hwy 380 then down to Hwy 82 and head NE and you'll see some beautiful scenery as well.
If we took either route, the goal would be to get over to I-20 into DFW![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)
Roger mentioned that the speed limit on I-20 east of El Paso is up to 80/85.

H'man: If we can coordinate it, great. However, I would expect you would need a motel in SF (the house is full at the moment) and we'll probably be moteling Wednesday night somewhere on the way to Alb, as I don't think I'll be doing the 1700 miles in one stretch. So, that would add a lot to the cost of just flying there or somewhere closer. Anyway, if we can work out the schedule, great.

I have been up and down 287 to and from Amarillo twice now in the past couple of months, once to Colorado and back, and once to Palo Duro Canyon and back. Two lanes the whole way, and passes through three or four small towns that will slow you down a bit. Pretty boring, but at least it's not an Interstate drone and the traffic was very light both times. Watch out for State Troopers though, I saw at least two each trip. But V-1 picks up the Ka that they all seem to use from a long ways away and they had radar on the whole time. No sneaky on/off stuff.
