Their Halotron one is a bit cheaper, but I've seen many Halon v Halotron debates but no conclusive evidence of which is better.

Three Wheelin'
Been there...got that T shirt. I had a Alfa Spider years ago but the top was down and just managed to lay down a crop dusting of chemical for a few hundred yards on the freeway. Good advise!

I think it is very clear:
For fires Halon is better - For the environment Halotron is better
Both will put out fires effectively.. Halotron requires ~twice the volume for the same effect, so the discharge rate is ~double... ergo the usage time is ~half for the same size extinguisher.
As long as it lasts its equally good - then its empty.
My strategy is to use Halon and never discharge it ...

Burning Brakes
When I was in the Navy (U.S.S Midway) back in the 80's the engine rooms were plumbed with halon. In the event of a compartment fire you were to hit the alarm/halon and run for your life. The halon was suposed to "displace" the oxygen in seconds and you were more likley to die from that than from a fire.
I do not know if it would be the same effect with a loose bottle in a car especialy with the windows rolled up but another good reason to have it secured and not loose rolling around.

"White Cloud" ...
Sorry to hear that, Dean. That crap never seems to go away. I had my own bad experience with dry chem back in the 80's; I had a backfire cause a very minor fire on the open-element air cleaner of my '67 R/T while at a gas station, and while I was going to my trunk for a rag to put it out(would have been fine) the attendant came out and emptied a 10-pound dry chem extinguisher into my engine bay. I vowed to never again carry a dry chem extinguisher and have kept Halon extinguishers ever since. My current extinguisher is Halotron, and I think I will soon relegate it to the garage or sell it once I replace it with a nicer halon-based unit. As Alan rightly points out, Halon is much more effective though I hope I never put it to the test.
Here is another bracket option:
It's the bastard child of a Stable Energies seat-mount bracket and a SafeCraft quick-release mount.
More details here.

Anway - when I get around to it - I'll have the alternate location (secondary mounting base) mounted just below the rear passenger seat - eliminating that issue - as long as I move the extinguisher when a passenger gets in!
Here is a different view (with old mount) but relative locations are the same... It must be pretty unobtrusive because my wife doesn't even complain - no snagged stockings so far...

Here is a pic of the 2.5 lb halon unit I have been eyeballing. I recall Nicole saying it was ugly at one time, but I like it and I think it will be less of an issue for ladies' purse straps, etc.
The price is pretty reasonable, a bit more than Halotron but twice as effective.
It's amazing how many passengers ask me, upon seeing my current extinguisher, if it's a nitrous bottle. I'm tempted to paint it blue and put a NOS sticker on it.

I'd be afraid of someone seeing the "PULL" label and doing just that.
Maybe I need to choose my dates more carefully if I end up going with one of those.

BTW I really recommend fitting a flex hose - it makes the directing of the agent much easier for all applications and allows you to provide provisions to get into the engine compartment if you should need to (even allows some reasonable access to someone elses engine compartment).
Dave I quite like the ones you showed - if they did the matt black one with a black anodized top & mount (and of course a matt black hose fitted) it would be a killer stealth look!

Actually, judging by what I see at retail shop entrances, if she's that dumb she'll try to PUSH it.
Anyway, the lettering is laser-etched. I talked to the guy at SafeCraft a bit about this, and they can provide non-etched pins, and he said (at the time) that he would consider custom etching. Not sure what else you might put on there. Maybe "DON'T TOUCH"? Or PUSH, then people will push it and wonder why nothing happens.

Let me know if you want to go this route -- it might be easier to talk him into doing two.

Dave,
Thanks for the info on the SafeCraft extinguishers. I think I will order one of their Halon units.
Just not sure between the flat black or gloss black.
