Yeah. they've had that one FS for a long time. I think the business closed and they only have a few cars left. They would probably take much less than $25k, maybe $20k gets it.

You're right on first two counts, I know the owners and unfortunately they are closing the business. They have had this car for well over a year. As for what they'll take I don't know. I do know that they plan to try and sell the last couple cars b/f they close the doors for good.

Hate to hear of another small business shutting its doors. We had a REALLY awesome corvette place here in Austin that got burned playing the market (not investing...PLAYING) and they have had to close their doors recently too. The owner always had a few Porsche around, one an older 911 (early 70's) and the other an S4. Not sure whatever happened to either car. Maybe the owner was able to keep those.

I'm a lurker who doesn't own a 928. It was my childhood dream car, and after getting a 996TT about 1.5 years ago, I realize how amazing a Porsche can be. I would love, love, love to own a 928, and now seems like the time to buy one, but it's incredibly hard to know what's worth what. However, you guys seem to think that there are a lot of deals out there, so it's tempting. But then I read the header thread about "So you want to own a 928," and I'm scared away. Oh indecision!

Dude, if you can afford to own a 996TT then a 928 is going to be a walk in the park! Frankly no other older 911 would even come close to a 928, especially a GTS (but really even an S4) so you have the ONE other Porsche that I would take in equal part to my GTS's! 997TT would be even better, but 996TT's are freaking awesome deals right now too, just like the 928's.

Having said that the only 928's you need to look at are GTS's... You just won't be happy with anything less parked next to the TT! Really nice ones with 50kish miles on them are in the upper $30k range to low $40k range for the auto's and add about $5k to that for a 5spd...oh, and about 6 more months of looking! Hard to find GTS 5spd cars, but they are out there and there are even some deals.

Now if it is going to be your DD then the '93 GTS in this thread might be a good place to look. $20kish+ makes me want to buy it REALLY BAD!

I have driven a TT like yours '01 and damn I really liked that car, but there were more than a few times on that 850 mile drive that I would have rather been in my GTS! The GTS is WAY wider and in my opinion more comfortable, but I did love the TT! Not enough to trade you though!

Good luck on your search and this site can help you with anything you need when it comes to 928's! They are freaking awesome cars! Strip'em down and take them to the race track or load'em up and drive them across country...they are GREAT either way!

Well, it's not hard to be dumb when you have some money burning a hole in your pocket (talking about myself). My 996TT is a cab, so I don't track it. I'm not inclined to track it. I wouldn't need a powerful 928, just a well-sorted, reliable, and inexpensive one (oxymoron). The body of a 928 just brings a very strong memory for me from when I was 10. Those upside-down headlights! I used to beg my mother to take me to the dealer, so I could sit in the 928 and get the marketing literature.

How reliable will this car be? How much would have to go into it to make it a reliable DD?

There are plenty of reliable, inexpensive 928's out there. You just have to look for one that has been taken care of. Lots of them out there and this forum is the #1 place to find them.

If you find one you are interested in, just post a few pictures and the car will either be torn apart by the crew here, or given the go ahead for purchase.

Nothing will beat a good Pre Purchase Inspection by someone who knows 928's though.

Here is what I see on this one.......and damn it's a good looking one.

Rear A/C vents are broken (cheap fix)

Rear bumper strip did the usual flex, and came away from the bumper.

Engine has not been touched. Hoses/knock sensors/fuel hoses need to be replaced. Plan on the power steering hoses/tank also. You will want to make sure the PSD has been serviced.

Still looks like a damn good car. I like it.

But for that money, I've got a customer that has a '93 5 speed, guards red that is in damn near perfect condition. Same $$ or a bit less.

At least currently, the 928 is mostly a pipe dream for me. If I were to register a 928 at the DMV, I could just go over to the court house to get my divorce papers in a two-fer. Maybe if I could find one now for $6-7k or if I sold our 911. I'm certainly not ready to drop $30k on a 928 (let's face it, that's just the down payment, wouldn't rods need to be replaced too?).

Huh? I never heard of having to replace the rods. Believe me, if you spend $30k on a car, you won't have to do anything but drive it and keep up the regular, routine maintenance on it (assuming it's a legit $30k plus car, and passes a ppi). You can get a very inexpensive well maintained and reliable shark (I just sold mine that exactly fit that description). Just watch here.
