Early,
Not much more I can say that hasn't already been said. How about this.... go drive one. The power and torque (esp in the 32V variety) is seriously addictive. 928's are very dynamic.
RE the Exclusive GTS. I've had my eye on this one. Figured it would come up on this forum eventually. I was sad to see Exclusive go OOB. I figured they would hang onto their higher end P-cars, until the very end... hopefully waiting for the lux car market to improve. With that said, this one is ripe.

Hello, my name is Mike, and I'm a sharkoholic.
This first step in recovery is admiting you have a problem.
Unfortunately, the above statement makes me want to buy more 928's...

This site will give you a good overview of the evolution of the 928. Prices are all over the map. Lots of variables, thin market, yada yada yada.
General price range is: OBs $10,000 and under even for 86 5-speeds.
S4, $10K and up
GT, $20K
GTS, $24K. Last time I checked cars.com, there was only one below $30K, these owners tend to be less motivated sellers.
I'm sure there will be disagreement here about these prices. There are nice S4s, auto under $10K.
The shark if maintained, is a very reliable car and won't destroy the average wallet, but generally they are 15 + years old and they will require $2000 to $3000 per year as an average. I disagree with the statement that 928 mechanics are mulitplying. My '85 had been taken care of at a respected shop in NJ and it had a couple of short-cuts (tensioner disconnected for want of $5 part) that none of the rest of us would consider. That's why most of us do our own work. Good luck.

Steve,
Great info.
$2-3k/year (doing the work yourself or by a mechanic?) in perpetuity is a tough sell for my wife. I guess I could try to sell my turbo cab to acquire a 928 or two and have some money left over for maintenance. I have to take a look and drive them. I will visit Joe, and there are a couple of older 928's in a park-and-sell near where I work. I will go over there in a couple of weeks and take pictures and post them.
Thanks for your input,
Victor

$2K to 3K, depends - Shop will go higher, dealer higher still, I don't think any of us look at a dealer. That is for a car that may look nice and be well maintained, but hasn't had the major stuff done : dampers, springs, MM, pan gasket, engine seals, PS rack and hoses. My '85 was hardly leaking at all, but I went crazy and did the pan gasket and WYIT, the MM. I could have gotten away with just doing a top end vacuum refresh and had a good driver. The number I quote is probably high but we tend to be OCD (obsessive/compulsive). Of course, not all has to be done at once and once done, you are good for another 20.
