Adam,

Ihave a set of 1980 Euro S spindles, rotors, and calipers w SS brake lines and I think the pads in the calipers are Hawke HPS with maybe 5k miles on them. t
The alipers are 282 mm dia and 32 mm thick, slotted Zimmermanns. They were left over from when I upgraded to the S$ setup on the front. You can have them for the cost of shipping fron VT. PM me if you are interested

yep, and scot is racing on them still. When the times get down, you start cooking them pretty good, but the rotors are pretty cheap and pad make a huge difference. Pagid oranges work well, if you replace them at 4mm. Scot hasnt tried pagid blacks yet, but that will probably be next. (or some equal race pad). I raced once with the old OB brakes. they were downright scary. Did a 2:10 at thunderhill on them with 200rwhp, 3100lbs with my O.B . Fun, but 'S' brakes would have made it less nerve-racking!

Try to get your hands on a 82-86 brake set up. It is a huge improvement and affordable. Kibort raced with them for years and when he went to the S4 brakes he said they were not much of an improvement . If you can't find them locally I can provide everything for $250 plus shipping.

I had people come up to me in the pits and say they could smell my brakes two turns back
Thanks for the awesome offer Mark, Tom M. has a set from his '82 since he's upgraded to S4's.
If I find a killer deal on some 17's, I may skip right up to the big reds with the adapters, but we'll see. No rush, I won't be seeing another track day for awhile.

Thanks Paul!

Let me see what I've got to work with here, and I'll get back to you either way.

Very generous!

The budget build continues....

Thanks to Chuck Ahrens for offering up this slightly abused set 993 Twists for $300. Ed Boyd offered doing a labor trade (motor mounts and pan gasket) in exchange for the Toyo RA-1's he had for sale. Heck yeah! These are 245/45x 18 and 275/40 x18's.

Here she is shod with the track wheels. Not bad, got to get some adjustable front perches so I can lower the car to race ride height.

Here's the OB with a couple of 928 friends. My S4 (which has been seriously neglected since the Ott Flare Install - finally washed all the dust off her today) and Mark Jacobson new S4. Very nice.

OB track car tally so far:

Car $ 500
GT2 wing $ 100
Track Rims $ 300
Tires $ 0
Colin Jensan Short Shifter $ 100
(Proto-type)
Total $1000

Good Buddy donations:
Steel ball joints - John Davis
Brake Calipers - Tom Middleton / Ken Osage
Interior Door mechanism - John Davis
Track Seat - Tom Middleton / Ken Osage
Stock seatl belt - Tom Middleton
Radiator - Tom Middleton
Battery Positive lead - Ken Osage
Trouble shooting electrical so all lights work - Ken Osage

Next on the list - S4 front brakes.

I'm definitely not worthy of all the time and parts these guys have helped put into this track car. I'm hoping to be able to return the favors some time soon.
I very much look forward to the day in the not too distant future where we all get to grid in our race prepped 928s.

actually it isnt really a prototype anymore. Have you fixed your bushing at the back?

And that is an absolute STEAL on those track rims/rubber!

I guess I should clarify - the price was a prototype . Colin made a handful of these in the original run and I was fortunate enough to get one. It works awesome, I don't feel like I'm shifting a Freightliner anymore. My old synchros didn't like the glacial speed of the gear changes with the stock shifter, with Colins it clicks right into gear on the upshifts. My 2nd gear downshifts still require a little bit of timing, but clicks right in when timed correctly compared to the chorus of grinding sounds with the stock shifter.

Haven't had a chance to put the bushings in the back yet Colin. When I had the car on the lift putting on the track rims, John Davis mentioned that my car was the only one he's seen that still has the rubber boot covering the rear coupler, so I guess that's a good sign.

Yeah rims / tires definitely are staying in the budget theme of this build. Ultimately, I'm hoping to find another pair of ragged out 10" twists to run in the front. Hoping to do the split fender mod to make them fit.

Definitely Brian. After brakes just need a little more motivation under the hood. Looking to drop in the 5L out my S4 when the stroker goes into it.

S4 Rear Calipers courtesy of the one and only Jim Mayzurk.

Keeping in with the budget theme, Jim let these go for $75. Thanks Jim!

Well, these won't win any beauty contests (yet), but they are S4 front calipers, and they were only $200. Thanks John Davis!

And to sweeten things up a bit, John tossed in a set of S4 rotors. Now these had a pretty major ridge on the outter rim of all eight surfaces and were kind of rippled on the contact surfaces. In all honesty I didn't think that they were going to be usable, but I thought I'd take them to the local machine shop to see if they could be turned. $15.95 each later, this is where I'm at. Awesome! Those of you who like me think that your only option with worn rotors is to replace at $100+ a pop, here's your $65 answer.
