Hey Guys... I was able to log into my old account
The outpore of support from this community is not surprising, but it takes my breath away! I feel so humbled & graciously would like to thank you all, even if just simply for your kind works
One of you asked how I came to own Leeroy & here is the short version:
I grew up on 911's. Leaned to drive for the 1st time after a Kings game at the old forum. Quickly developed a love. My mid-20's were tough, my mother has Lupus, we lost our 24 yr old cousin, & three grandparents... I realized how much i wanted to live everyday like there may not be a tomorrow, b/c we all know tomorrow is never a guarantee. I wanted to for the 1st time do something for myself.
I researched all Porsches for almost a year...Searched & search, & finally found Leeroy in San Fran. I flew there & drove him back.
Everyday I drove Leeroy, even when he wasnt feeling his best & gave me trouble, everyday was a pleasure. He made me smile, he made me friends, on the streets & in this forum, he really was a joy!
And if he isnt fixable I can honestly say he had a great life, & I thank him for being apart of mine.
Its lifes simple pleasures that make me happy.
You all have touched my heart.
There arent many truely good people in this life, but you are a special group of people who should teach us all that genuinely good people still do exist! Thank you

That picture makes the suspension look toast. If the suspension is toast, then the brake lines, calipers, and the master and slaves on the firewall are gone as well.

The Coil is on that side, the headlight motor, etc.

But I am sure it will work out just fine.

I'm hoping you are able to get this car back on the road. Good luck!

Mark,
Great idea, hope it works. The 928 community is the finest group of automotive folks I've been associated with in my 58 years of driving. I'm always proud to feel associated with y'all. Everyone who has volunteered time or support is another example of what continually builds on that wonderful community spirit.

I have some S4 parts, (of course, having dismantled two totaled ones), so will contribute if something is usable/needed. Good luck, and even if it isn't really possible to resurrect Leeroy, the idea (and Lisa's unfortunate loss) again demonstrates "our" humanity.

tragic story with a wonderful twist! i hope everything works out.

i will say, as an ex-forensic engineer who dealt primarily with fire science, that i am very concerned about the forward frame. that fire was clearly hot enough to damage metal. even if the frame LOOKS okay, if it was heated beyond a certain temp it is probably no good. much of the metal in that forward frame was probably heat treated to produce specific strength properties. re-heating in the presence of impure gasses can cause those properties to change quite a lot.....proceed with caution.

Does Brendan still have that rolling chassis? Might be a good starting point.

I can certainly understand why this may look impossible to many of you but I do believe I have the rare experience of assembing a 928 from the frame up and have it run again

So Mark how bad do you think the damage is, does it look like the frame has seen too much heat??
I do believe that most of the bolts ons can be replaced, its juts the possibility of a weakened frame.
Nice Race car by the way,.. So you should have the best idea on how to proceed, Good luck I am there in spirit

Lisa,

I've been the recipient of support from this forum, and it's really amazing how willing
they are to contribute to the 928 cause. They are truly a great group of people.
I wish I was closer so I could help get Leeroy running again.

And kudos to Mark for organizing this and all those contributing to the rescue.

Wish I was close enough to help. If we are laying bets, put me down for ruptured PS or oil line spraying on the exhaust as the cause.

Best of luck on this!

I do not have the car yet but I have bought may burned 928's. Yes Leeroy looks bad but from my experience we should be fine. Aluminum melts at a relatively low tempature and as you know heat rises so most of whats below should be fine. I have seen S4 motors where the intake manifold melted into the head ports and the short block was still good. Ask Tim Murphy as he bought that from me.

You mean the one that came out of this car?
I think that is the block that is in my car right now. For sure the cams are.
