Default Reliability of silicon oil pan gaskets!?

Hi,

I was in the way of ordering a silicon oil pan gasket in replacement with the OEM. But a friend of mine has had to change his own silocon oil pan gasket because of early failure.

What have you experienced about it reliability?

Thanks for all

Puyi

You still have to clean the surface just like any other gasket and do not torque the living sh*t out of them, they should last a very long time. There are a few out there who have dropped the pan and re-used the same silicon pan gasket, still no leaks.

I've only had mine on a couple of years.

After Shocki discovered the Real Gaskets Silicone Gaskets and told me about them, I became the first vendor to start selling them back in 2005.

So far, I haven't heard of a single complaint or issue with them.

OK,

As my friend look more at it. It is not really a silicon oil pan gasket but an old cork OEM gasket which has been filled with a "mega shape" of silicon!! I don't understand the mechanics who saved at least $30 in an operation which is far from short time to do!

Thanks for the answers

Regards

No worries, even if your failure had been real, one failure is one too many.

But, there is no way one failure in 5 years with hundreds sold is gonna give me a heart attack.

But hundreds of failures certainly would!

Um, do you mean they are the bomb? Or is "crap" the new, sounds bad but really good expression?

Gotcha - doesn't quite work the same, A+ for attempted style points.

Think back to the 80's when bad was good, if presented the right way.

Come on guys... keep with the parlence.

The silicone OPG is "the shizzle" or "shiznit" if you prefer.

If I was changing any gasket, I would never *ever* intentionally put in something made of cork! Sheesh, the roaring 60's are over dudes!

3 years later, my silicon pan gasket is still sealing tight.
