I got a box via UPS today with 8 GT rods in it, yea baby!!!




I could hardly contain myself to get the box open and take a look and they look just like the descrition, Pristine.

I just wanted to say thank you to Greg Brown for all his help he is giving me on my 928 engine build.
As everyone here knows, when it comes to 928 engines, Greg Brown is the man.

When I first contacted Greg, he not only was helpful, but he has continued to go out of his way to help me.

The strange thing is, when Greg and I started talking via E-mail we found out we had a lot in common.

Thank you Greg for your help and the great deal on the GT rods for a fellow 928 guy.

That is my understanding, that they are forged.

sinter forged like the 87 S4 rods...or are these unique to the GT..and true forged? Interesting bit of info...

Tom, the GT rods are unique and are forged from steel blanks, not powdered or sintered steel.

I will try to get some pictures today of them, they look really great. Just like the pictures above.

One thing I do not understand is why in the world that Porsche came up with a better rod for the GT and then went to a even weaker rod than the S4 for the GTS.
Makes no sense to me.

Once again, I can not say enough, how much help Greg Brown has been.

how do you identify these rods (other than pulling them out of an unmolested GT block)?

Never met GB personally, but have known about him for some time. I don't expect him to remember but he did the PPI on my first 928 (80 AT, 'Nilla) back in 2000. I bought it sight unseen out of Burbank with Greg's PPI and a few polaroids. Can't remember if he even charged me, but thanks Greg.

The GT rods are one of those rare things that happened, without much said about them. To my knowledge, Porsche never talked about them, nor are they in the "PET". Not sure how you would have gotten a single replacement, if you needed one...

I've only seen them in the factory GT engines. Don't think they came in all the GTs made in 1989...not sure, but not positive about this. They are visually completely different than the sindered rods...and they have the "parting" line that happens when something is drop forged.

BTW...if you are building a hot rod 5.0 engine, these are the "hot" ticket...especially if you are going to supercharge it!

Rob Edwards has an "extra" set...you might be able to talk him out of them. They are very hard to find!

I propose early 89GT vs later 89GT...lets see...hmmmm....89.5 GT??? LOL

..now I'm going to find a micro cam to jam up the oil drain to see if I got's me some good rods
