I did that mostly for Dave C's benefit, though it's 72 and sunny today. It's warm enough to paint calipers, hurray...

I picked up the refreshed tranny from Greg today. (Top is still loose so I can fill it with gear oil) :

The tally is 3 synchros, 3 bearing cages, the input shaft bearing, the reverse leaf spring, the spring lever thingee, and the PSD housing bolts. Greg got into the PSD unit to check the friction plates, fortunately they were ok. He showed me the guts of the unit - no frickin' way I'd ever get that thing back together in 1 piece.

I like Greg's nomenclature for old parts....

Greg also showed me a trio of the fuel lines he fabs that replace the front fuel hose, the rear "U' hose, and the line from the FPR to the fuel cooler. I didn't have my camera there but they are frickin' cool-

Heads are all ported and are getting a valve grind, then assembly starts this week. I'm hoping to have an assembled engine by the end of the holidays. There, just cursed myself...

Note that all the hardware has been cleaned and replated. Also note that all the "heads" of the bolts all match.

Note the lack of dust or oil on the transmission jack. Note that the "tie down" still has the tag from the dry cleaners....

He's a bit OCD....and the part he is missing....I have.

We're dangerous when together.

GOO GOO GAGA ****!

Oh and how nice to see the case unfinished but simply cleaned! I rue the day i see aluminum paint all over a beautiful aluminum case such as ours.

Greg, lets just hope the concours judges dont get a look at the engine stamp on the stroker.....with all those correct bolts we would hate to lose points anywhere

Rob, you dont have any pics of the inside of the trans do you? Im curious about the factory GTS oiling. I can see on the exterior how its plumbed but any more pics or detail on exactly what it sprays on. Any pics of the internal pump? Or have those not been declassified yet?

Ryan-

I'll shoot some pics of the inside when I pull the top to fill it (after basketball/birthday party/basketball driving duties are over for the day) The entire inside was covered in black material from the PSD friction discs, Greg ran the case and all the internals through his parts washer, then I brought it home and bead blasted the hell out of it (there was a LOT of corrosion on the outside), and then Greg had to re-wash the whole thing to get the beads out of it. It's clean now, inside and out.

Erkka posted a bunch of great shots of the GTS trans oil pump here:

yup he sure did!

great link

Do you still need to find a temporary home for your blast cabinet? I started tearing down the lump I have and its a mess!

How many hours do you think you have in R&R of the transaxle case just from the sake of cosmetics? I think its worth it but what like maybe 6 hours?

Had you thought at all about clear coating it in a satin clear or something to seal the pores of the case so they will never again attract dirt? Our cars have so many cool aluminum components and they look fantastic when clean, I wonder if this is a practical or sensible idea?

Ryan- Blast cabinet is yours any time you need. I probably spent 3-4 hours blasting on the tranny case, but most of that was waiting for my compressor to catch up. Lots of nooks and crannies, tho....

Crossmember, front suspension, and steering rack went back in today. Calipers were painted, all hardware's sorted (it's ridiculous how much time it takes to bag and tag a car's worth of nuts and bolts...) I'm going to marry the TT and tranny tonight, then hang it and put the rear back together tomorrow night- the goal is to have the car roll-able by Christmas so I can turn it around in the garage so the engine can go in. Once she's all together it's getting flatbedded to Greg's for idiotproofing, startup, and tuning. Lots to do!
