What were your winter projects?
In the middle of my wintertime projects on the 928. Once the salt hits the roads, I leave it in the garage and start my maintenance. This year the list is long. First started with powder coating the wheels, went to mirror black on my Guards Red car with new rubber on the rears.
Next, replaced cam chains with heavy duty chains, replaced tensioners with newer S4 tensioners with new pads. Under the cam covers was immaculate, 170K miles. Must be the Amsoil!!!
Powder Coated cam covers.
New water pump, timing belt, Porkensioner, spark plugs, rotors and distributor caps and painted belt covers.
What's left - Pro-Vent, put belts back on and fire it back up. Now just need the rest of the snow to melt and get a good rain to wash away all the salt on the roadways.

This is more of a late fall & winter list.

-Complete interior detail, including new neoprene mats (thanks Rob Budd), 930 steering wheel, GTS shifter, fixed/replaced a bunch of loose bits, lots of Lexol.
-Rear hatch latch and hatch shocks
-Fuel, air & smog filter
-PDR on rear quarter (Dent Wizard works miracles)
-Shift coupler, rear (Front ball cup was done by PO)
-Clutch master, new
-Brake master, blue hose, and clutch master replace (again, because I ripped 1 of the seals)
-SST brake lines and Super Blue
-O2 sensor
-Motor mounts (no OPG because it had just been done by PO)
-18" Turbos, w/ BFGoodrich G-forge A/S
-Short shifter
-Rubber fuel lines (Thanks Roger)
-Transaxle lube (Redline 75-90)
-Paul Champagne door inserts (black Pascha, white piping)
-TB/WP/OP R&R (w/Porkension'r and 32v cam timing tool)
-Coolant bridge & oil filler neck seal replace, and Tstat (83deg.)
-Hall & Crank sensor connector replace (the Hall was disconnected setting ign. back 6 degrees)
-1" Wheel spacers, studded (Removed because wheels didn't fit)

-PS system refresh w/ new hoses, clean & flush
-Coolant hoses, accessory belts
-Steering rack w/ new boots (only 15K on the tie rods)
-Engine lube (Mobile1 15-50, sorry Kibort... had to switch back)

No pictures to show, but here is the list and progress.
Left front fender off for minor dent repair and repaint.
Front bumper cover, door sill covers and lower front fender covers off and to the paint shop to remove old paint and repaint with the fender.
Sunroof removed and taken in for paint. There were a couple of scratches and I figured that now was the time to paint it. Color is code 700 black, with clearcoat.
These pieces come back from the paint shop middle of next week.
HVAC blower removal and cleaning. The hood will be coming off so I can remove the HVAC blower and clean it out and lubricate the motor. It's been squeeling for a while.
Flex plate pinch bolt. I just removed the bell housing after lowering the exhaust a bit from the headers. I need to get some Loctite and find the bolt I've had for a year or so. The flex place is not flat and is bowed in toward the front of the engine a bit.
HVAC head unit light bulb replaced. I've been in this before, so it's not a big deal. I had replace the a/c relay a couple of years ago.
The radio is out. I need to get a new on/off **** and see if I can get an Ipod connection added. Otherwise, I'll replace the head unit and amp with a new Kenwood unit that has builtin Ipod and Bluetooth.
On the list is also removing the intake and cam covers for powder coating and replacing the hoses adn gaskets, but this may wait for a couple of months.

Chris, the cam tensioner pads on my MY85, with 170K were worn pretty good. The pads on the 85's are alot thicker than the newer style and are not replaceable, but I think the newer are made of a different material. Mine were worn in to the point that the pins on the side plates of the chains were about to dig into the plastic. I think they would have started to wear worse, and maybe even broken up a bit. I'll try to take a close up pic and post. So I installed the S4 tensioners. There is one hitch on the 85 to switch to the S4 tensioners, you have to get the oil feed tubes from an 86 ONLY, and a banjo bolt that bolts the tube to the tensioner from a 86 and up. There is no check valve in the system then, but Dan Gates (Dannyfumi) made the change and has 27K since with no issues. I posted the part numbers for the oil feed tubes in the following thread:

Malcolm, I didn't use the tool to secure the cams. I set the crank to 45 BTDC. I removed the cams by turning each bolt on the saddles 1/4 turn, going around until they were all loose. The intake cams had almost no tension on any of the lobes. The exhaust cams walked up slowly, seemed like a couple of cylinders lobes were under tension. Doing it this way worked for me and others have posted doing it the same way.

Cracked my block this summer (Operator error, foreign object in intake.. )
Spent the winter building up a new 5.0L bottom and swapping goodies over. Also added new cams and 90mm TB. Put the engine back in tonight, hope to have her running again next weekend.

Hi,
Winter project has been buying a new car after the sale of my old 944 T. That one was not the right one to ride on track day.
So I bought a '89 GT 140 K miles without molding and sunroof and with no cat exhaust and 5 gear boxes 40% LSD. That 928 has a good historic, has all the original parts. So the project will began soon to make road/track car, reversible 928 track car to 928 stock road car.
The way it is, a race group with the members of the french 928 OC ie: http://www.clubporsche928.fr is to be created. I think, all those guys has been working hard this winter to make their cars available for the early beginning of the track day season.

The honest truth............haven't started.
We had good weather in November and then -30C for quite sometime. My winter projects parts package is on the way then we'll get at it............weather dependant.
When the weather does comply and the parts are here:
water pump
valve cover gaskets and seals
camshaft chains
camshaft chain tensioner pads
OPG and stud kit
a/c compressor, hoses, O-rings and recharge

Dave, Will call you tomorrow on Pro Vent hose routing and mounting. There isn't much room to it on the 85, with the wide intake, throttle linkages up front and that big *** mount for the linkages and mechanical fan (which I have deleted) but installed the electrics on that side of the radiator. I have an idea for a mount that I will run by you tomorrow.
