I think you are right. Thr AT is closer to the battery box as well. Some day I will find out when I get around to installing the LSD I have had sitting in a box for a couple of years. I'm waiting for some other reason to pull the tranny, but the car just keeps on ticking.

Hi
Thats a really silly price....lolllllllllllll
If you have the LSD and the pinion, with the correct puller its around 90 MINUTES for a good mechanic to change an ordinary diff to an LSD...and the tranny does NOT have to come out.....it comes out after you have removed the big diff plate on the back.....(plus a few other bits)
That works out at around $1000 per hour lol...
No way...
All the best Brett

Another sad case of A/T discrimination.
See, to many, we aren't worthy of existence.
Here's the pic that tells the tale, it's the heatshield on the tank that got in my way, although I'm not entirely sure that even removing it would get you there.:
If there's a way to make this happen on the A/T's without removal, it would definitely save a lot of time.

Note that I said that it takes about 6 hours. If all you had to do is remove the rear cover and move your feet, so that they didn't get crushed when it fell out, it certainly would not take that much time.
The fuel tank comes out pretty easily, BTW.

If you twist that crown wheeel 90 degrees and then tip it downwards...it WILL come out....although you still need a puller for the pinion ....

Thank you all for the great inputs.
One other question; gb mentioned checking/rebuilding the LSD, what would be the labor and parts costs for doing that assuming replacing all the friction and pressure disks?

Not true Brett. (at least not Stateside. )
The differential is too wide, and the ring gear too tall to allow it to rotate in the manner you describe.
I'm telling you, these A/T's are a whole 'nother story compared to the manuals.
Dropping the tank would give you the clearance.

Hi
Unless you have a different tank to Uk 928s....it WILL twist and remove.....its a bit fiddly but it will go...you drop the crown gear edge first until its pointing at the floor...then it wiggles out.....I have done it a few times....

Believe me..we tried every angle on it to get it out..almost to the point of prying against the tank to make some room..but being plastic..probably good we didn't. Adam wanted to pull the tranny anyway..just for the fun of it

Hi
I believe you...I am just wondering whats different between my Uk 928 and yours....my exhaust on an S2 is different as it comes out the back corner but its not in the way of the diff casing.....my tank SHOULD be the same as yours.....weird....
