Hmmm...pusher fans on the front of the radiator. If that's adequate, I may get rid of my pullers to create some intake hose routing room behind the radiator too. Thanks for the idea.

Bill, they are two 12" fans we got from Silicone Intakes, run by a variable speed fan controller we got from Summit. They are 7 amps each. One is running all the time, and the other comes on with a second Permacool puller 10" fan on the other side of the radiator.

We'll let you (and everyone) know how this works after they have been in service for a while. But by preliminary estimations they seem to blow plenty of air.

Hi All!

Well, today, Kevin had a nice little chat with Steve Cattaneo about the various nuances of transmissions. Steve is a terrific guy, and was very generous with his knowledge and time to someone he's never met before. Thanks very much, Steve, for your much appreciated advice!

He has finally come to the conclusion, after much back and forth in his head about it and some knowledgeable words from Steve, to put the 88 trans in after all, and perhaps rebuild the 85 trans over time, and then decide how he likes the 88 trans after he's had a chance to drive it for a while. In the end, one of the two will likely be sold, but the decision is being held off for now.

The latest challenge to hold things up was the soldering gun that decided to crap out yesterday afternoon early. There was no where to get a new gun yesterday (stupid Sunday Blue Laws), and I had to spend some time today tracking down decent model that will hold up over time (cheapy ones don't work so well in the cold, and he just wore out the last cheapy one we bought him ) today, and the by the time I did, the day was pretty well shot. So Kevin spent his day going over the car, making sure that nothing was missed or left loose, while he waited.

The old supercharger bracket from the kit does not fit on the new engine's configuration, and it was always a little wiggly, so he decided to beef that up a bit. Below, on the right, you will see the old bracket from the original kit, and on the left is the beginnings of the new one. The much thicker metal should make a more robust brace.

So tomorrow he's going to finish up the supercharger upper brace and make a p/s reservoir bracket and replace a transmission cooler line. Then, wire the computers in and all that's left is to turn the key! (Dry cell battery is charged and waiting.)

I don't know about you, but I'm betting it starts right up, first time.

Keep your fingers crossed for him!

Default It's ALIIIIIIVE!!

The dishes started rattling on the shelves this afternoon.

Damn that mother is LOUD with open headers:

Thanks to everybody who has played a small or large role in making this dream a reality. Your collective efforts have paid off, BIG TIME!!!

Boy, was that last bit of wiring to the computers a hoot, hanging through the passenger door window upside down, feet on the wall behind him, trying to get the brains hooked up. He tried to get to it from the driver's side, but just couldn't make it work with the stick shift in the way. But fortunately, there weren't that many wires to change, and it was pretty simple in the end.

More tomorrow about the final wiring details, after he's hopefully no longer tossing his cookies from the flu.

Anyway, it works -- you can just stick your arm through the window to fire it up!

We'll report more tomorrow!

Leslie/Kevin

I'm very glad it worked out! - sounds like in the end it was as straight-forward as it seemed it could be after all...

However a note for others - putting an S4 engine in anything earlier than an '85 will be a lot more work electrically ... The engine wiring from an '85/86 is not that different to the S4's.... (now proven!)

Congrats Leslie. Now you need to do one more video in the trilogy, with the beast starting up with the open exhaust.

Alan, between your and Colin's initial assessments, Kevin couldn't believe it would be so easy, in one way, and then again it seem so logical in another....with everything being so similar between the cars. But it really was only a change of about 3 or 4 wires, in the end. Piece of cake with everybody's help!

Boy, is this place great or what??

When he got to the last wire, he had to go back and recheck himself three times, because it just seemed too easy. Well, once you get power to the LH, it is easy. (Dammit, you gotta actually put that fuse in the fuse holder! )

Anyway, we'll post the exact wiring changes tomorrow.

For tonight, Kevin deserves to rest the rest of the victorious. Finally. It's been a long road.

Charley, that's coming up tomorrow! After the s/c bracket is hooked up so the belt can go back on. (Oh yeah, and after that pesky p/s line has been installed.)

Um...yeah, actually, you will, Tony......if you ever want to see him again, that is. He has spent so much time out there this winter that he's literally acclimated to it now.

It's too hot in the house, with the 'stat set at 65.

The kids and I are freezing and he's wearing shorts most of the time.

Thanks for your help, Tony. I'm so glad the end is in sight finally....maybe we can finally turn the heat back on!

Alan, thanks again for all your help, and for letting Kevin vent on you. He has been thinking, now that he understands the wiring of these two cars better, he might be able to come up with a plug and play wiring harness using a Painless fuse panel and some relays. He almost has it all planned out in his head, and he is going to see what he can come up with when he has a little more time. He doesn't think it should be that hard having the car here...lol....famous last words.
