No, seriously, Kevin had read about that here on the beloved List. Calamity averted!
But thank you for watching over his shoulder. It's always helpful to have an extra set of eyes on things.![Cheers](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif)
More pics tomorrow!

Boy, has he made some progress today!
It's a little hard to see here, but the oil pan has very nice clearance over the cross member now that Roger's new motor mounts are installed...

Starter and torque tube bell housing cover are in...

GM alternator conversion and rack are in

Here's the old rack, which Kevin would dearly love to hit with a hammer!![order](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/order.gif)
![](http://reutterwerk.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=73&pictureid=710)
New belts are installed...

The new wheels look great, especially with that new wide rubber... I can't get side shots of them right now, but here's a profile so you can see where he had to flare just a teeeeeny bit...and maybe he'll go a teeny bit farther so it can be lowered a scootch more.

Kevin got all the way out to the garage to take pictures for us, only to discover he'd left the camera in the house, so he opted for the quicker solution of using his cell phone. Apologies for the crappy quality, and he promises not to do it again. ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
A bit more progress today. The distributor caps and rotors were installed, as was the supercharger and ... that's when the first hitch of the day was discovered. Par for the course, with this build.![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Today's challenge is that the intercooler and pre-existing tubing for the s/c system are not going to fit or work.
And it's not worth altering again, so more stuff is needed. And after that, he also realized he was going to have some uncomfortably large gaps under the hood and decided he needed to order even more things, to fill those "lacking" spaces up. ![w_attention](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/attention_whore.gif)
![hiha](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/roflmao.gif)
Aaaany-who....new intercooler and tubing is on its way. And some dynomat to cover the intercooler. And a ****load of silicone hose. And...and....some fancy schmancy blow off valve (it's a Synapse) we just had to have.![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
![evilgrin](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/evilgrin.gif)
I'm kidding, of course. Some things just need to be. I do understand this intellectually. But sometimes, I just want to kick the crap out of the car, like right now....but that's a different thread... lol
Oh yeah, the second little snafu. While turning the engine over to tdc to install the ignition rotors, he found out the hard way that the torque tube bell housing lower cover is different between the 85 Euro and 88 S4. It can make you think you seized your engine, and give you a heart attack, really really well. Even if you have never run it.
Turns out, the cover hits the flywheel and locks it up solid. Just about freaked Kevin out, but he meant to use the 88, and f'd up there. Fortunately, he realized his mistake quite quickly. No biggie. (Poor guy, he's tired.)
So, it's sort of a project, within a project, within a project.
Coming soon....how to repair a broken automatic transmission shifter cable!
Enjoy the (blurry) picture show!

Great thread. Very hard work going on here.
Leslie, can you give a few specific notes about the GM alternator conversion?
The Camaro/Delco works great on the earlier pre-5 liter cars. But didn't the alternator mounting change in the 32V 85+?
So, which alternator is Kevin using, else, did he fabricate his own bracket? Or am I totally on the wrong page?
Nicework, again. In tight quarters and cold weather! Wow.

Landseer, Jadz is basically correct. Kevin is using the old style p/s pump with the GM alternator, and the old style brackets for both, in order to use the crankshaft pulley for his supercharger.

Hey Lester....Thanks very much! It's funny you should ask that.
We just got finished preparing this evening's post, and I suspect your question will be answered fully herein. Perhaps more than you wanted to know.
And yes, it's quite similar to Tony's, though we're not sure if it's identical. Perhaps Tony will chime in and tell us... ![Cheers](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif)
Good evening, folks! Hope you're all ready for a pretty long post this evening, we've got lots to share tonight.![Cheers](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif)
Packages have started to arrive at the house again...
Just some of the "stuff" he ordered to fill up all those troublesome wide open spaces under the hood.![hiha](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/roflmao.gif)
Like these oil catch cans, for instance. Good for filling up big holes very quickly.![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
![](http://reutterwerk.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=73&pictureid=722)
And this nice variable speed fan controller. Not a lot of space filler here, but it should hopefully cut down on power usage when it's not really needed...we'll report back to you on the success of that idea at a future date.
![](http://reutterwerk.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=73&pictureid=724)
And let's not forget the 42 pound injectors which also, admittedly, don't fill up a lot of space....but the space they do fill is a very important one.
And they contribute greatly to the very important task of keeping the gas tank emptied of all that pesky fuel that keeps accumulating back there. ![evilgrin](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/evilgrin.gif)
What a nuisance! The one space he's not trying to fill up, apparently.![ducking](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/icon107.gif)
![](http://reutterwerk.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=73&pictureid=723)
But the really best space filler he found was this way cool intercooler and radiator and fan setup he purchased from www.siliconeintakes.com.
![](http://www.siliconeintakes.com/images/product/water_air_kit_1_picture.jpg)
But he doesn't have that stuff yet, it's still in transit.
(FYI, www.frozenboost.com is a sister company to www.siliconeintakes.com, apparently.)
Another task accomplished today was the upgrading of the poorly designed wiring to the jump post and starter. There is no use for a jump start post on these vehicles, since, as we all know, jumping is a
. At least, if you like your computers to continue functioning.
The stupid thing was cracked anyway, and shorted, no doubt.
Plus, more importantly, it was in the way of the supercharger, which doesn't quite clear things the way it used to a few weeks ago.
Hmmmm. I think something may have changed there. ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Here's the mess that has coagulated around the jump post with all the different "hurry up" mods Kevin has attempted over the past...gee, is it really only 10 months??? Wow, time flies.

Thankfully, Kevin has been fortunate enough to find assorted wires and other stuff laying around in various cars we have owned over the years... He managed to cobble together this nifty little setup in a moment of epiphany, as he was digging through his so-called "parts bin." (Basically, that's every available surface in the garage, basement, and, lately, the top of the refrigerator.
)
After installation is completed, Kevin will be coming back to this area to loom up the wires and finish cleaning up the area.
[Sidenote: Kevin has not been describing in detail any of the wiring he has been doing up to this point because it has all been repairs to the car's original wiring harnesses, or wiring related to the supercharger system -- all thoroughly documented elsewhere. However, fear not, when he gets to the point of making any real changes that will wire the 85 and 88 together, he will post detailed instructions with many more illuminating pictures, so that others may follow in his footsteps if they wish. But please don't let that stop you from asking any questions you may have as he goes along.

If you look really closely, you'll notice it's not bolted in....just sitting there for fitment purposes. There are a number of things in there like that, actually.

Carlos, you're welcome to come by any time.

Tony, that's a question to which it would be interesting to know the answer. You're the researcher amongst the three of us...can you find out somehow?

Hi! It's us again, back to annoy you all with even more pictures of assorted car parts. ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Shiny stuff arrived today.![jumper](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/jumper.gif)
A great big box with hoses and clamps and an adorable little radiator and an INTERCOOLER!![jumper](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/jumper.gif)

The intercooler...shiiineeeee![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
![](http://reutterwerk.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=73&pictureid=743)
Notice the large fin to water passage ratio on the intercooler radiator. This has already been test fitted to the car, and it fits in front of the engine radiator nicely.
![](http://reutterwerk.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=73&pictureid=745)
Lots-o'-clamps...more shiny stuff (t-bolts)
![](http://reutterwerk.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=73&pictureid=746)
New Summit Racing (Ford style) 42 lb injectors (left) and stock S4 injectors (right)
![](http://reutterwerk.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=73&pictureid=747)
![](http://reutterwerk.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=73&pictureid=748)
On the new injectors, the clip groove is a little too far down the injector for the injector clips to reach. It was necessary to cut a groove around the injectors at the correct location, so that the clips will hold the injectors to the rails.
![](http://reutterwerk.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=73&pictureid=749)
We have to thank Tony (toofast928) for all his help in figuring out the intercooler and in providing general moral support.
Tonight the final piece of the puzzle was finally settled upon...we will be getting some computer chips from the renowned Mr. Tim Murphy, of Murf supercharger fame. Thanks very much, Tim!!
![Cheers](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif)
Thanks also to Hacker, who was instrumental behind the scenes in getting us in contact with a very busy, and highly sought after, Mr. Murphy.
Thank you, Hacker! ![Cheers](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif)
More to come in the next few days, as the last bits and pieces roll in the door...start up feels so close now!![burnout](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/burnout.gif)
G'nite all!
