sty3x,

Chill man, this thread ain't about you or youth. Stop pumping in the drama.

It is about someone knowingly doing something stupid that was going to cost someone else some money.

Kinda like when you wrecked your car going too fast and made your parents' insurance go up 200%.

Sorry man, I just HAD to.

Damn, those fines are real after all...that's the last time I smoke in a nonsmoking hotel room.

(although I recall a magazine article reporting that it was really just a way to increase revenue for hotels, like airlines charging for blankets, etc)

Not really. After a few guests raise hell, insist on a room change or refuse to stay, management has to do something.

Ed Scherer sent me a PM with an interesting thought:

Randy V edited the initial post of this thread. Could it be that once a Mod edits a thread, the software then recognizes the Mod as the official owner?
Yes, actually, I did think of that, and checked in one of my own threads. And same for when I logged into Kevin's account.

Randy's answer was that he didn't know what the problem was, and suggested it could be my browser. But I'm using the same old AOL dialup I have always used at home, so that's probably not it. I'm still liking Perry's thought that our designation wasn't set up for it...

My last post in this thread I promise...I have my own policy and the wreck wasn't documented no claim on insurance or anything. I didn't make this thread about youth you guys think we are all like Ross. I had to clear things up

Mike, I appreciate your advice and that it is offered as a parent. However, if only parents could judge other parents, then all the childless social workers, judges, police officers, firemen, psychiatrists, psychologists, socioligists, historians , attorneys, and jurors, etc., etc., would be rendered incompetent to pass judgement as well as I and other members of this tribe...er...society. We all know or should know differently. I think you in your more objective state would agree.

The original assertion was about the effect parental drug use had on their children, and I remain convinced of its validity. I don't think I need to provide evidence of such a hypocritical posture as a drug user parent affecting their children's behaviour. Doc seems to think his drug use is not consistent with my assertion, and I vehemently agree that his is not the usual case. The little I do know of him, I suspect he also has provided other factors in his relationship with his children that account for their avoidance of his habits or practicess; he has obviously taught them to think for themselves which is consistent with his own philosophy as I know him. I would be resentful of anyone telling me how to treat my own children so I can understand your statement, but , as with Doc, I can't agree that I am unable to detect contradictions or hypocrisy in the practices and preachings of a parent that contribute to the child's deficient behaviour. You don't agree. That is your choice.

And who assured you that I was not or ever was a parent? Not that it makes a whole lot of difference to me. Nor will I answer if asked, for my life is, as yours, private to most here. I don't mean this to offend you, Mike, just to ask that you reconsider your subjective implication that only practicing parents can render sound advice on parenting.

On the topic of this post: I can't remember if anyone has actually witnessed Ross smoking cigarettes. Has anyone? I know this case is about what appears to be a duck, and he has feathers like a duck, waddles, lays duck eggs and has a bill from which he emits noises like "Quack", but has anyone seen him smoke? Bigs, did you see him smoke? Just a thought. That's all.

Yup, I agree. I have reserved hotel rooms far in advance only to arrive at the hotel to find I've been given a smoking room and, in disgust, had to search for a new hotel while still being tired from a 600 mile drive. I will never stay in that brand of hotel again, if I can help it. Their attitude was take it or leave it. Hoomalimali, if you ask me. Or even if you didn't ask me.

In the pictures posted from the trip there was often a pack pictured.

I saw him smoke several times. Not a picture of him smoking, not a Youtube video of him smoking, not an internet forum postulating that he smokes, not a hotel maid finding butts and ashes in his room, etc. The night my 'gal and I put him up, he stepped outside the house several times for what he called his "bad habit".

The next day at my shop while I was getting his bike ready for him, he smoked several times. When we rode together to a coffee shop as the last stop before he left, he lit one up there too.
