Got it! Thanks!

I didn't do any work on the car last night since I was printing pages up of the workshop manual from my PDF. I'll start tearing into it tonight, that way it will just be a straight assembly and install of the intake manifold and rails next Saturday.

The intake is going to be repainted this weekend, but I am looking for a paint that is virtually identical in color to the factory coating.

Look for Zermatt Silver, or buy some of the Wurth wheel silver if you can find it. Kneedles to say, the prep will be the most important part. Spraying new color over the unprep'd original finish will cause you to cry in a few months even if it does look OK know. Get the thing stripped or blasted, then follow the requirements for using a chromate primer immediately, before the metal starts to seriously oxidize. That's hours, not minutes, but well less than a day. After that, you can take your time with the final prep and paint, so long as you maintain the protective primer barrier.

What about 400 degree Duplicolor paint? I have had good luck with that. Also, clearcoat it too.

What are some recommended degreasers? The factory coating pretty much flakes off just by putting your finger on it right now.

I used a rattlecan (Duplicolor), you saw the results. It is not the hi-temp paint either, waaaay too limiting on the colors. Like Dr. Bob said, the devil is in the details, or in this case, the preparation. I sent you an email about this yesterday.

According to the 928OC instructions on this, it says that I need to use a special tool to disconnect the idle control valve under the intake while using that tiny inspection hole at the top of the manifold. Has anyone not used this tool and removed the connector from it? I will not be working with any special Bosch tools on this.

Yes, I did.

No special tools were used or harmed in the r&r'ing of my intake system.

How did you do it? That looks like an insanely tight squeeze. Did you lift the manifold to do it?

Sweet. Should be a piece of cake to get it off right after I quit biting my nails over it.

Looks nice! I think this is what Andy has in mind although I hear a rumor his cam covers are going to be red wrinkle-finish .

PROBLEM. The wiring under those fuel rails is REALLY damn old. It looks like someone has been in here before alright prior to me getting the car. The outer sheathing on the wires is crusted off on some of the harnesses. Luckily the sheathing around the wire is not that bad and all copper is insulated still. The connectors on the fuel injectors are REALLY REALLY OLD LOOKING. I feel like if I could break it even if I took a screwdriver to pry the clip open in order to disconnect them!

I'm done for tonight. Still haven't gotten the rails off. No time for anything during the week.

At least I know what I"m doing Friday night......breaking the Cherry on my new Craftsmen Full Polish Line Wrenches.
