Question Has Anyone put in aftermarket Recaro reclining seats in their 928?

I was looking at seat ideas this morning. While reupholstering both of my seats (both are in need of massive Life Support) is most likely the best route to go, I am plagued with seat switch problems now on both seats and I am fed up with having to take switches apart with ball bearings flying everywhere while trying to clean and re-assemble. I prefer something manually adjustable now for reliability. It would even save me some weight in the car.

I was looking at the Recaro Trend, and Recaro Sport seats. The Sport is nice since it supports harness capability. However, I have no intention of tracking my car; it still looks really nice though.

Anyway, has anyone installed Recaro aftermarket seats? If so, do they make sliders or brackets for the 928 in order to fit these seats in and is there any issues with the seat belt buckles? I remember on my 944 I had to drill holes in the transmission tunnel to mount my seat belts after getting aftermarket seats.

The belts are bolted to the tub, not the seat. You can swap out just the seats. I have Corbeaus (from Leslie) in my car. I like them.

The reclining seats do not have side mounts and will need a whole custom bracket in order to adapt the seat to the sliders properly.

On an S4? Looking at seats out of the car, it looks like the buckle is attached to the seat.

Sorry. They are attached to the tunnel on my 84. I figured they kept doing that on the newer cars.

You'll need three things in order to mount the seats - Sparco, Corboau, Recaro, etc.

1. Seat
2. Seat mount/base frame (bottom for reclining seats, or side for fixed back - generally)
3. Sliders

The mfr's make all the parts you need to mount the seats. The 911 mounts and sliders fit fine in my S4, and I imagine they will fit fine in all model years.

When Chuck gave me his Corboau fixed back seat, I took it with me to the local speed shop where I bought the sliders, and then I put everything together right there to make sure it fit.

Here's some example for the Sparco seat. Doing a quick search I couldn't find the Recaro info, but anyone shop that sells Recaro's will have the seat mount and sliders - otherwise no one would be able to mount them in their cars.

And I could be wrong, but I think the Sparco hardware fits the Recaro's, but best to call a Recaro retailer and buy direct from them.

Good luck. -Ed

I think the seatbelt latch mounted to the seat mount on my S4. I don't have access to it right now, otherwise I'd go out and look.

I'd just call your local Recaro dealer and get all the info from them. If they don't know anything about the 928, go with the 911 info, and/or better yet, stop by their shop to check everything out.

For the switch problem stop trying to repair them. If you're not afraid to do a little soldering/wire splicing, the memory seat switches can be adapted to work on a non-memory car, and the switch itself costs about $45 instead of $120. The switch is just a relay with a user interface on the surface. If you compare the diagram on the sides of both switches, you will see that they are the same. There is a terminal in the center of the memory seat switch that has no wire attached, but it is used on the non-memory seat. So you just solder an extra wire to the switch. Since they use different colored wiring, you have to wire the switch in, using the diagram rather then just matching the wires. It's a little tedious and time consuming but well worth the $150 you can save.

The only "race seat" install that I have seen that compliments the car was Tony Harkin's where he had the seats covered to match the interior and recovered the rear seats to match as I remember. The usual wrong color wrong material install looks like just what it is ....ricer to the bone. That said the old very brown 1980 has black ricer seats in a brown interior and yes it looks like Hell and I could care less they have cutouts for the shoulder harness (they are gray ) and the car has rubber floor mats screwed to the floor ...If the car looked GOOD people would expect it to be FAST. Besides the seats were FREE ! Thanks Mark

I have the now-discontinued Recaro SRDs in my car. Lots of 928 owners have these seats. I got them with Recaro-provided manual fore-aft sliders that fit perfectly. I mounted the stock seatbelt buckle to a bolt on the inside of the seat. They look at home with my black interior.

I am looking at the Recaro Sports and I just realized that these are the EXACT same seats that are in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII and IX cars. I sat in these seats in a car that belonged to a friend of mine and was astonished by the degree of comfort.

The early seats the belts are to the tunnel later about 85 they bolt to the seat (Porsche increased the size of the seat mount bolts as well). Using a bolt on the seat of an aftermarket seat on an after market slider is probably a poor choice and should NOT pass any D E Tech inspection. But way better than the seat belts velcroed in my daughters Factory Five Cobra kit car
