Note, along with the 'dog bone' spacer to delete the tensioner arm bracket, the PKT ground kit also includes a shiny new 10mm stainless button head bolt and copper washer to replace the rusty tensioner arm bolt. (Rob.) ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
(Complete PKT conversions now include the updated ground system.)

Given that Step 1 is 'Remove the front of the engine', the Dummies edition for 85/86 would be to buy a copy of JKelly's timing belt procedure- haven't seen him post much lately but you could PM him. It is the most comprehensive set of TB R&R instructions that exist for '85/86. Once the engine is nekkid, you can pick up with the instructions here.

I am doing something wrong on this 88. The belt is not slipping on easily at all with the engine at 0|T and putting the timing gears at the proper placements.
It's almost as if there is some slack missing somewhere.
I have noticed some do the install at 20 instead of 0|T
Really a struggle today.

Usually it's between the oil pump and the 5-8 gears.
Rotate the 5-8 gear with a wrench (retorque the bolt later) to pull up all the slack.

The passenger side is really under tension. About 8 or more teeth. So it has to be turned and held to get the teeth on. When that is going on I have to fight with the driver side.

Should I try at 20?

In which direction? Are the 3 teeth?

Hello, I am at this point, and am wondering which direction to rotate the crank/engine, clockwise ?
Next, install the balancer and pulleys (torque the crank bolt semi tight, maybe 60-70 ft lbs), remove the flywheel lock, then rotate the engine a few times to make sure that the balancer and cam gear timing marks line up. They did in my case, I checked 3 times over 6 rotations of the motor.

Always and only clockwise, as you view from the front bumper. Righty tighty!
No need to torque the crank bolt, you'll be tightening it up somewhat just by rotating it to check the timing marks.
