Andrew it was not meant as an insult. I believe what you say. I just thought I would pass on what my friend says since he uses the Laser and Radar guns. Jason

I didn't take it as an insult, just re-iterating my 1st hand account.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pics. Basically, you mount the heads to the front bumper - this was the hardest part. Yes, you will have to make a few holes in your bumper. I couldn't get a drill bit in there, so I used a right angle pick and a blow torch. I heated the pick and them melted a hole in the desired location. Worked like a charm.

Run the wires to the back and find a place to get them into the car. I drilled a hole near where the O2 sensor enters the car. The wires have a sealing plug that prevents the wires from chafing and keeps everything water tight.

The control module is only about 1"x3"x1/2" and can accomodate upto 4 heads. Each connects with an RJ45 plug (telephone jack). I used an "add-a circuit" off the fuse panel to supply voltage, then it was pretty much plug and play.

So far so good.

Andrew, keep monitoring the "sealing plug" which I presume carries the wires through the firewall. I know someone who paid a reputable shop to run some wires through his firewall in such a way as to prevent moisture intrusion. The shop chose to run them through such a plug. Some miles later but on the other side of this country the plug had worked its way loose and those wires chaffed to the point of creating an electrical fire and the biggest cluster f*** of melted wires ever seen by mankind. To this day, no one has managed to eliminate the gremlin that fiasco created. Not to mention the cost of completely removing the dash and replacing all the wires melted together. &*%$#*%&$#*&!!!!!

Just because we live in California does not mean that we agree with everything the enviro-***** or other bastions of silliness cook up. By your reasoning, since we all live in America, we all agree with the Bush administration policies? Gimme a break.

Great point Shark. I grew up in Cali and lived in Sacramento prior to Oklahoma. I too didn't agree with a lot of the crazies out there. In fact most of the people I hung with didn't. There is a silent majority out there and a very loud minority

There are existing grommets - I don't recommend drilling new ones.

For this install - the best way in my opinion is to use the bulkhead grommet on the drivers side (LHD) and go through the firewall grommet under the wiper motor - it has a small loom and a vacuum lines (for the HVAC feed & hot water valve) but there is easily room for another small loom and since it exits right above the pedals - its easly to go over to the console.

You need to figure out a feeder mechanism and some long nosed pliers to thread this - but its the easiest path to do this one... You don't need to uninstall anything - except the plastic cowl covering this area.

BTW... saved me again this past Thursday!

I was getting onto the expressway to go to Beer Night (I got on M14 at Beck for those familiar with the Detroit Metro area). It's a 6 lane highway - 3 in each direction. I was heading east. I spotted a 996 in the center lane. Well I had to be faster than him... becasue well... I had to be.

So I swung out into the fast lane and was doing about 80-85. Speed limit is 70. I did a quick scan for a police car in the median, but didn't see anything, so BWWWWAAAAAHHHHHHH!

I'm cruising along looking at the 996 when all of a sudden the V1 goes berzerk and the blinder starts it's high pitch squeal. I start slowing down and I start looking for the cop... but had already done a scan. "Where is he?" I thought.

Then I see him. It's a motorcycle cop in the center ditch. Very hard to spot.

He was targeting me for about 3-4 seconds and then let up, and tried again for about 2 seconds then I turned it off. As soon as I turned it off, he stopped. As I drove by, I saw him re-sight hin on another car and didn't even give me a funny look.

That's three so far.

I use the grommet behind the dead pedal for the hood release cable (ROW headlight leveling tubes/wires).

That's the nice thing about the V-1. You hear it. You see the arrows to narrow your search. And then you say to yourself "Where is he?" But with the arrows at least you know where to look. Often it is just a cruiser coming from the other direction on the other side of the median and he can't turn around so you put the hammer down again and off you go. But until you find him you keep watching those arrows.
A week ago I had 2 saves just like Andrew's in about fifteen minutes, both from the V-1. Finally I spotted the bear hiding in the bushes near an on ramp. Did I mention that I love my V-1 and Andrew loves his Blinder, right?

Exactly Ron! The arrow allow you to quickly ascertain if it's a REAL threat or a false alarm. I love my Blinder and my V1. The two, together, make it a much more level playing field.

Ken - I do think thats a pretty easy one to use too - but there isn't one there anymore on S4+'s (I did add one back to mine... Not easy though... Porsche also added a lot of padding to the firewall there - at least on the GTS).

Sometimes it's better to be lucky, than good.

I had my court date today, and it was dismissed because the paper pushers had lost the ticket.
